Nope. That is a complete system. Such systems usually have multiple boards sharing a board bus or backplane of some sort.

    A claim was made:

This claim did not state motherboard, but compared a system built with the motherboard as being faster than "the" CIA or FBI mainframe.

Nope! Not fair at all. :-)

    Let's stay with AMD64 architecture...
    Cray XD1:
    12 CPU / Chassis
    144 CPU / Rack :)

    Up to 576 Processor :)

It is not a fair comparison for the board in this thread to be max-ed out and compared to a mainframe as could be purchased by the FBI or CIA, but I did not make the claim that this board could exceed the speed of what the FBI and CIA have as mainframes.

BTW, the Z-Series from IBM are listed in a link from their products page as "mainframe machines" (Of course, the RS6000 are not directly linked in the same way as "mainframes though. ;-)

    [Added content:]
I tried to be fair and select a "mainframe" from "IBM":
Products page Locate the column "Servers" and click on the link "Mainframe" to find IBM Mainframe Products of which the IBM Z-Series 990 is included.

my bad, i know this is kinda of late but what i meant to say was it would be faster then one of there workstation, not mainframes, i think the reason i typed mainframe was becuase i was looking at fifferent types of mainframes while reading this thread earlier today.
before asking a retarded question, google it. google knows all.

Before you go comparing this motherboard to anything from the CIA, FBI or even UPS, you better google the differences between microcomputer, minicomputer, and mainframe.

My fingers want to type out a rant but I will just guess that you are overzealous regarding this motherboard, like someone who says their new car can do 1,000mph, they mean fast, not a specific speed.

From my point of view, too bad it's only AMD.

Yes i will agree AMD isnt as fast as..........oh say something that sun would put out or some of the 4.0 ghz intels that are out, but there 64bit chips are the shit for gaming, and i do beleive that i can say that pretty damn confidently, with not mayn people disagreeing with me.

As, much as I like all this crazy tech, the stuff I do own, older sparc systems rock...I feel in love with them quite awhile ago, repair and all the such very fun very cheap machines. AMD64 rocks, not in windows but when you use a real os like say openbsd or linux....it is another world of speed.

            fastest :

            amd64 3000+

            slowest:

50mhz sparcclassic (processor is a texas instruments)

Has any of you seen quad processors before?
In 1999 I had a DEC quad alpha rawhide with a gig of ram under my desk (for the kiddies, those were 64 bit processors running at 1Ghz loonnnng, lonnnggg before Intel or AMD faked it with a single set of registers). Quads have been around for a long time. At that time, DEC was working on a 32 way system. You should see some of the boards that Cray produces, it would make you squirt in your shorts kiddo.

yes it would make one hell of a jack the ripper box, but im willing to bet the reason there is no ad to cart button is becuase it costs way to much.

Generally when its says "Price on Request" you know it is out of your price range.
                    Did Everquest teach you that?

Bah... Cray just does't understand the E-Commerce...
Take Sun for example... They are into it and not affraid of showing the prices...

Realistically what use is that board if not for use in a server role? Most run of the mill applications are not developed with multiprocessor support in mind and wouldn't be able to take full advantage of a setup like that.
