I hope there will be Zippos...I'll gladly mail it.
Chris, you caught me in a brainfart...last week I did a ATL/DFW flight where people were bitching about that in the smoking lounge. Oddly enough, a guy got through with a bic...

Its just funny how you can't bring a fingernail clipper/lighter... but you can bring 4... f-o-u-r... books of matches. Great...
Almost anything could be used as a weapon, and screeners routinely fail tests....
The whole idea of TSA and airport security is dumb... the reasons are obvious.

Perhaps the hoops to jump though in obtaining a Zippo just say us locals get full dibs! Sweetness!

Yeah, recently my brother almost got busted for bringing a drum key almost identical to this. TSA freaked out because they've never seen something like that, but what could you really do with that, especially as a kid? You'd need a lot of power to stab someone with such a blunt object.

Looks like the key they use to wind up the rubber band to make the propellers go.

Dang you're right, I got them confused.
This is what he really brought.

I still don't know why they freaked out, what's the problem with that?

In light of Chris' and Al's concerns about the Zippos, it should be noted that the TSA changed the lighter prohibition rules on Monday. Here's a partial quote of the AP story.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has changed a rule banning unfilled lighters in checked luggage on U.S. airliners, according to new regulations posted on its Web site Monday.

The decision was lauded by Zippo Manufacturing Co. officials who said earlier this year that that banning all lighters from luggage could have cut into its sales by as much as 30 percent. The company, which has about 750 employees in the northwest Pennsylvania city of Bradford (pop. 9,500), sold about 14 million of its signature brass-and-chrome lighters last year.

The new rule appears as a footnote on updated regulations posted on TSA's Web site. The five-page document details items that U.S. air travelers can and cannot carry on their person or in their luggage.

"All lighters are prohibited as carry-on items. Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage, but lighters with fuel are prohibited," the footnote says, reversing the rule that banned all lighters from checked luggage."

Wow, *good* news from the TSA...probably someone high up has a lot of zippo stock, heh.

Hey., you guys are welcome. I'd say "I'm all about the service" but then HW would say I'm sinking low in quoting Chris again.

I too, would like to see the Zippos sold. Even though I gave up cigarettes some years back, I still think a DC Zippo would be a great souvenir.

with all the shit that people go through with flying, i'm curious how people plan to travel to DefCon this year and get whatever gear they want with them. hmm... i might actually start a new thread just about this.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."
