  • When the AP is sold out, what hotels are nearby?

Woot! First post in Rides and Room sharing this year! Muwhahaha!

There's a way to [ab]use a site that finds hotels near universities, and make it tell us where to find hotels near DefCon...

Search for Hotels Near The AP/AV around DefCon (Custom URL [ab]using collegehotelguide.com)

NOTICE: Avoid OnLine reservations from 3rd parties! Best advice: call the actual hotel's front desk for reservations once you find a hotel.
(Call hotels even if they are "Sold Out" -- say you're with DefCon to see if they are still "Sold Out.")

Thanks to renderman for the Lon/lat posted in this thread.

[Added Content: Expedia for hotels near The AP/AV and DefCon (Custom URL [ab]using expedia)]

Great post Cotman (And it keeps with the brevity trend!).
The Amerisuites should be a step up from last year for me, I stayed at the Key Largo. Its not so bad, if you sleep in a sleeping bag and don't walk barefoot much.
    The dude abides.

Wait a few weeks and find someone to split one of the suites at the St-Tropez. It'll end up close to 65$/night, but it's next door. There's two beds and a couch that can sleep someone else in every suite.

The only reason the AP is better is DC TV. Oh, and the pool(s) at the st-tropez are not heated as much. Which can be an annoyance if you were to go skinny dipping in it, not that anyone would do that at the st-tropez.

Heh.. the water DID make for a damn cold swim... but at least it is probably less nasty things in it than any of the AP pools..

San Tropez isn't that bad (the walk is short)- and there always seems to be plenty of parking at the San tropez (if you stay somewhere else, you might want to park at the San Tropez if you can't find a parking spot at the AP)

At DC11, I dipped in one of the hot tubs with a pair of tan shorts and when I got out of it, they were pink, most of the dye had run off... One more victim for the AP pools.

Worst case, Terribles is just like it sounds, and you really get what you pay for.

You can hump it back and forth to the AP, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they're currently walking about 10,000 paces a day now, with a 100oz hydration backpack, not wearing all black, and in the midday sun.

The [buffet] food at terribles is also bad; it has no flavor, but on the other hand, it is way over priced.

My opinion was of their buffet. (See below)

Hey! You're treading on my personal opinion there! If you can find a better $4 steak-and-eggs at 3:00AM within walking distance, I'm listening.

We went for a "special" sunday Brunch that was something like $12. There was no Steak, but they did have eggs.... eggs that tasted like something other than eggs. The Rio was good for food and had a similar price.

Yeah, don't do the buffet. The restaurant is awesome though. $1.99 steak and eggs at night.
