The "hacking" on NCIS is just awful. I know that real hacking would be too boring to show on tv, but they don't don't even try to make it believable. I guess they think that if the hacker is a cute goth chick we won't notice or something.

What I'm surprised no one has mentioned is Swordfish. You have to be the best hacker in the world to stick a logic bomb through their trapdoor while getting a blowjob.45 5F E1 04 22 CA 29 C4 93 3F 95 05 2B 79 2A B0

But hey, wouldn't you rather be hacking WITH one than without one?Originally posted by basculeWhat I'm surprised no one has mentioned is Swordfish. You have to be the best hacker in the world to stick a logic bomb through their trapdoor while getting a blowjob.

I don't really understand the point of this thread. Why should we expect action movies to depict realistic events rather than visually appealing scenes? If two hours of video footage covering the Capture the Flag event could yield $100,000,000 in ticket sales, why hasn't anyone done it?
Beyond that, why dwell on the worst examples of a subject rather than the best? Doesn't that just encourage people to make more bad movies?Comment

One might confuse the hacking movie Swordfish with The Swordfish, a silent film from 1922Originally posted by Voltage SpikeOh, it was mentioned...

We have a thread about better hacker movies from last year. [It was called "Hackers in Movies" but the thread seems to have gone missing. Google has it in its cache, but that will change. The movie Swordfish (IIRC) stole the idea of the name from an old Marx Brothers' film called Horse Feathers. In that movie, there is a scene where Groucho is on one side of a door and a password is required for entry. After some good comedy, information leakage leads Groucho to know what the password is, and entry is gained. [The password was "swordfish" by the way.]Originally posted by SecondOne might confuse the hacking movie Swordfish with The Swordfish, a silent film from 1922
This is one of the earliest examples of "hacking" in movies, of which that I can think. However, it is not a bad hacker movie. It is a comedy.Comment

Isn't it obvious that encouragement to make bad movies isn't required?Originally posted by Voltage SpikeOh, it was mentioned...

While I agree that even 5 minutes of capture the flag footage would put me to sleep, think of the box office receipts you could get writing a script based on something like the annual defcon subtext "dramacon".That's my story and I'm sticking to it.Comment

Now I might get a lot of flack about this, but since we are being pressed for "good" hacker movies, what about Anti-trust?
It stayed as true to form as possible, even throwing in tech data to back up buzz words thrown around.
On top of that, it got crappy reviews and box office fan fair, giving it the "cult" status that is usually required to be a "good" movie to the nit picky, don't want to associate with main stream type."Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups"Comment

That's the closest Hollywood will get. Short of Sneakers, but the whole de-cryptor in a cube thing kinda threw things off. Nice Red Team work though"Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups"Comment
