  • Favourite type/brand of coffee?

    Hey, guys.

I was just on a wee coffee tasting session with some of my close mates, and it just reminded me of how much I miss my favourite types of coffee, namely Luwak coffee (Kopi Luwak, in the native parlance), Timor coffee, and Toraja coffee, all of which are quite cheap in my native Indonesia. Here in the UK though, Luwak coffee can cost up to around £200 per kilogram.

My question is as in the title of this post. What is your favourite type or brand of coffee?

There has been a few posts of your favourite caffeinated drink, as well as a few posts about Coffee Wars (God, I wish I could afford to go to Defcon, if only for that ...) but nothing specifically about which type of coffee you prefer.

I'm not quite sure if I should of posted this in /dev/null or not, so I apologise about this in advance, as I do about my poor grammar and spelling. English is not my first language.

    So, fire in.

    P.S.
I haven't been on a caffeine high for months. I like this.

You're probably going to cry when you read this:

My favortie is, uh, coffee. No fancy brands. No mocha-chocka-vanilla-latte-soy-expresso-frothy-cappa-whatever-it-is fanciness. While I'm sure there are people out there who enjoy such things, frankly it's lost on me.

Open a can, dump a scoop or four into the pot, add water, percolate coffee. Perk a new pot when it reaches voting age.

Fresh ground arabica beans made into Espresso, that's really all I drink and therefore care about. To me the "brand" is irrelevant

Hills Brothers tickles my fance just nicely. I agree with above, as long as I get more red-eyed then a hippy at Woodstock from the stuff. Doesn't matter how good/bad/ugly it is going down.

I enjoy just 'coffee' ... I like to try new stuff and Its pretty fun, kinda almost being adventurous. Sometimes its good coffee, sometimes its bad. But thats just life.
Coffee in general is good, mainly because I can't seem to like rockstar or redbull much and we all need our power adders sometimes.

Though it smells good being made, Coffee tastes gross. Thai Tea is the closest thing to coffee that I drink.

Ha, I agree with Cot, smells great but I don't like the taste. Bawls is for caffeine.

Personally, I like Cafe Duran. It's a Panamanian Brand. It's smells good, and is strong as hell.

                          Is it the marketing?

I do believe that what is marketed as Sulawesi is in fact Toraja coffee, as Toraja is the major coffee producing area on Sulawesi. Not 100% sure though.

Similarly, I think that Sumatra Coffee will most likely be Mandailing, again that area/ethnic group being the most prevalent producers on Sumatra.

I've never had a South American. Must rectify this immediately.

The choices the choices. I work at a coffee shop in Ky called The Coffee Beanery and my personal favorite is a mix I call Blue Hawaii. I guess you will have to wait until coffeewars to find out. But for a strong Roast I like anything Turkish and I agree with Noid Sumatra is good. Also a Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is nice on warm mornings.
