This can be a dangerous thing if you mix Las Vegas heat with being drunk and sleeping or unconscious while your proteins denature.

If you really must sleep in a car, do it at night, and make sure you won't be passed out with your windows rolled up in a locked car for 8 hours from 10:00am till 6:00pm, or else you could wake up dead.

I've slept in a car elsewhere. Stay hydrated. Sleep only when the sun is down. Make sure you continue to get fresh air.

Well, yea, dont want to wake up dead, thats on my list of things not to do. I slept in a car for a couple of days when we drove to nevada to buy fireworks

I was just wondering about people breaking in, or people bugging me to "get off my property"

      EDIT*

Also i suppose i could find someone at the con who has some extra space, haha hope they dont want a favor.

The AP employs security guards who have historically toured the parking lots on a semi-regular basis looking for strangeness. This does not mean that theft will not happen, but in every year of DefCon, my car has done well by itself.

If you have never been to DC, and do not know anyone there, your opportunities are fairly limited. You may meet someone there who is willing to offer you some space, but many *reliable* and *respectful* people won't let a person stay with them unless they have some refrences from people who are trusted, or are people who are trusted.
You can also try the ride and room sharing section (here) just as you have to see if anyone will take pity on you.

See the FAQ HighWizard made with contributions for many for room sharing hints and suggestions.

I have known people in the past that have slept in thier cars during DefCon BUT:

          1. One of the people ended up with the handle AlmostDeadGuy (you do the math)

          2. each of these people were smart enough to sleep somewhere else until they were sober enough to sleep in the car/truck/van and not die.

most of the time if you are not an asshat you can find floor space for sleepies... so take the asshat quiz and decide for yourself which route you want to take... but drink lots of water either way.
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

True this is my first con, butIi know a few people who are going, but the chances of meeting up with them randomly at the con is slim to none.

Just a thought. If anyone DOES want to help me and 2 freinds out, I can sleep Litarly anyware.

That's just retarded. It's not that big. I randomly met two strangers on my flight in one year, ended up hanging with them most of the weekend. There has never been someone in attendance who I made a point to see that I didn't get to see. There are plenty I don't get to see enough of, on account of my work/party/sleep schedules, but I've never had a problem finding someone I'm looking for. If you know someone and you are actively looking for them, you will find them. This is 2005, we have cell phones, email, gps, wireless... surely you can find a way to meet up with someone.

It's funny how the Defcon people tend to stand out. The Church of the Subgenius shirts are usually a dead giveaway.

This site has a list of really cheap hotels and places to eat, might help you.

I've seen people sleeping out by the pool every year I've been at con, but I don't reccomend it as there are a lot of people out there with sharpies.

And to tie it all back together, on the subjects of people sleeping outside and finding people at con. I can find a kid passed out by pool three, bust out my sharpie and write

'Pappy- Gone to Home Depot to get a shovel, pipe saw, and some trash bags. Do not let anyone in the bathroom till I get back. Also, theres half a sandwich and some juice in the fridge, help yourself.
                            -noid'

on their back. So, when Pappy goes looking for me, he will find out where I am.

As far as sleeping in your car or outside goes, I'm not sure what the AP's official policy is. I would imagine their official policy is 'no you cant' but selectively enforce it. I actually saw a guy put up a small pup tent on one of the lawns one year and security seemed to let it slide, but if several people started doing that I bet they would take action quick.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

Why in the world would anyone want to sniff sharpies at a hacking convention?
