Mine and I met in a Biology course-- not quite a geek, but maybe a nerd with ambition.

Its called a period or something. They all communicate through mammograms, and I think thats encrypted so we won't be able to figure them out.

My wife is geek tolerant. She is fully aware that I have a compelling urge to do these strange things that make no sense to her. Since I seem to enjoy it she tolerates it just fine.

My wife and I met 17 years ago on a bulletin board; our initial conversation centered around our choice of handles (rjsquirrel and signer). We chatted online for a couple weeks, met in realspace, and a couple weeks after that, we were engaged. The anonymity of our handles helped us to be really open and honest with each other initially, so when we met, we already knew a lot about each other, and liked the person inside. The fact that she was (and still is) totally hot merely tipped the already overbalanced scales.

She's not nearly as geeky as she was back then, having moved on to running the career center at a local high school. But she still keeps her hand in....

I met my wife in chat about 7 years ago. Chatted online and talked on the phone nearly every night for several years. Eventually we met, got engaged, and got married.

                  Stitch is becoming more geekier.

But to be honest, I actually like the fact that for the most part my Partner isn't "geeky". He makes us do things and me more tolerable in general.

Yup, it all started with this thread. Of course when h3adrush first meet me he along with everyone else was in shock to find out that I was girl, seeing as how they thought I was I guy.

Although we both into computers our interests and skills vary from each other. We also share other common interests such as guns, history, and food, but we also have separate interests as well and that always keeps things interesting.

I never actually considered getting GF... It's never been a priority... I guess I'm sorta lucky though. I'm young and still have time...
Oh it's fun and games to watch people burn up. It's not fun, however, to have to clean their burnt sticky bodies off the road while being handcuffed.

Do you suppose in today's Internet climate, you could still have found each other?

I have, in the past, dated from the internet. I have also dated women only from "reality". I would have to say that finding someone that is "geeky" is a bit better. Trying to build common intrests while dating is a bit tougher than already having something to talk about.
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

                            Hello eHarmony.com!

Really though, today getting a date on the internet is probably easier. I think that keeping the person would be harder though. The internet isn't nearly as personal as it used to be (even from when I started using it in the mid 90's). That has probably caused alot of the level of talking to go away, and more of the "I w4nt to m33t 4 yur hot bod'" to come.

Hmmm.... Happening to call the same BBS as my wife was a pretty big coincidence - it wasn't even particularly local to either of us (although we were all within the SF Bay Area, the BBS was a toll call for us both), and there were hundreds to choose from, all (or most, anyway) independent from the others. However, once we did make contact, the odds of us hooking up were certainly improved due to the fact that it was somewhat local, at least within commuting distance, which mean we were somewhat local to each other as well.

It's far easier to meet someone online today - more people online, more forums available, more ways to search for contacts. But it seems to me that the odds of being able to meet in person are substantially lower, since the geological constraints are pretty much eliminated. Unless, like this forum, the online meeting place is related to some sort of event or gathering that the chatters are traveling to.

I'd like to think that we would have found each other in today's environment, but that may be the romantic in me making a rare appearance. The odds would be stacked against.
