My machine is custom built. I like this because its easy to upgrade, modify, etc. Of course if anything goes wrong, its on my shoulders. Now, this is fine for me, but that scares alot of people.

In this respect, I would say Dell has a great thing going. My mom owns a Dell laptop, and every time something goes wrong, she can send it out. It's back in a few days, as good as new. She never has to mess with it, and thats something she really needs.

    So, to each their own.
Every signature I can think of at the moment is completely moronic. (the irony)

If you ned to call Dell 4 times a year or more, spend the $149 and get your Dell Premier Support Certification. I had the wrong RAM sent to me and from the time I picked up the phone and called Dell, entered my codes, got a real person within the US who spoke English, got the correct memory sent to me, and got $25 coupon for my troubles, well barely three minutes had elapsed.

In 3 minutes, Home users are still in the phone tree from Hell.

Based on limited experience reported by a buddy from .dk, Dell Business lines in .dk sucks, and so does thier online support.

Well.... I think I'll try to assemble my box myself. Large firms seems freaking costy and... I want my own box, not "the one my neighbour has got"!

I feel your pain. With my past two help desk jobs, Dell was the exclusive computer/server used. At the Dell university, we were on our own for any support for a while, the last resort was to call Dell. We didn't have the Uber Customer Support package because they figured the help desk could handle everything. My biggest dissapointment (and not really a reason to blame Dell, but still) was when there was a recall on a certain line Maxtor hard drives in the GX270. I know it was Maxtor's fault, but Dell was no real help with trying to send back 48 boxes of varying shapes and sizes full of dead hard drives. I know we almost missed the deadline because of the poor service. The other Dell filled job had the Uber Support, so it was fairly nice. The only problem we had was when a power edge server went down and the Dell guy showed up at 11 instead of 9. The admins weren't happy. Also, as of recent, I've noticed that some laptops shipped from Dell include no CD what so ever. The drivers and the OS is on a separate partition that you have to use to restore it back to working order (if it gets bucknerd, of course). Just my two cents about Dell. I'll build my own PC any day and take on the responsibility if anything breaks.
We are now accepting callers for these pendant keychains.

Me too, but the problem is, that I am pretty "young" in this subject...
I think I would have to read something about it.
Do anyone out there have some good, new, relevant links to share with me?
I would be really happy for some support!!
(That's what the topic is about, support. Not yours, but Dells. Anyway.)

all you need to know about building your own computer.

this advice wouldn't be complete without an article explaining the reasons to build your own super-kickass comuter

heh, ok... that's my contribution to everyone's humorous time-wasting today.

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

It's funny I should stumble upon this thread, I too hate Dell's, they are the worst fucking kind of computer I have ever had the misfortune to work with. For example, I just tried to put my nVidia GeForce FX 5500 PCI in a Dell, and the computer wouldn't boot up when the card was in, the Dell's specs were 3.2 GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, and 400 FSB...

Apparently Dell is a very good company if you're considering doing serious spending for servers, networking equipment, or anything like that. Something like.. say.. building a datacenter.

They'll give you really good support once they know you're serious. I mean, it's not great to have that kind of Customer Service Model.. but yeah.
