iirc, the TBBQ came from several competing ideas of thought forge. One of those ideas was to make it an actual contest for BBQing.. with judges, or some measurable vote to define weiners and losers .. I'm all for a sub-contest aspect if people want to define it and make it so.

not necessarily directly at kelvin, but really to anyone reading this.. said it in many a time in years of yore, will repeat. How to become a 1337 TBBQ crew person? umm.. think up an idea, present it, make it so. TBBQ is an opensource event taking the good from all that offer it and having fun with it until the charcoal cools.

anyone remember videos and an article (posted i think in last year's BBQ thread) about people seeing how fast they can light coals on a grill... and the ultimate culmination of one guy's efforts was like rocket fuel or LOX or something... just obliterarted the entire steel grill setup and made it a smoldering molten puddle on the ground at the end.

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

It was a discussion about a contest that was held elsewhere where they competed to see how quickly they could take standard charcoal briquettes and warm them to the point they were ready for cooking. (Proper color and ash, and temperature.)

Here is an article about it:

The original page with images and video is down:

It is no longer in google's cache.

Astcell had a post about it: here with another article:
