Could Microsoft be using this technique more aggressively too?

Video was "leaked" and there is confirmation of discussion on gadget forums/blogs.

This kind of advertising is becoming mainstream-- make the consumers advertise and encourage name recognition for you.

Consider the benefits of getting so much interest about your product that it makes it to slashdot.

This is actually something that Microsoft was floating around with back in the Whistler alpha-betas.. basically 'leak' your own OS and you now have a testbed for beta hacks that will bitch about issues and circumvent measures before the OS is released en mas. It also created a pretty heavy following before the OS hit streets, so transition to the OS was pretty smooth for most. In fact, super secret corporate video or blackcomb was 'leaked' as well... basically priming the same folks for the emerging development of longhorn.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.
