Ok. Ch0l0 -- that should be "sunny." :-) And I am quite adept with archaic things such as the Dewey Decimal system. Teach me something new. :-D Oh, and I just hacked a new drink. I think I shall dub it "Ch0l0 tea" - three parts jasmine tea to one part of vodka to one half part of bitters, a stir of sugar. 'Tis quite tasty. You have been immortalized.

Dash -- Yes, I personally think that moding a bike counts as a hack. The mileage on the boards here may vary. Even if your initial hack didn't work and you end up with a door stop, at least you put forth the ideas and the effort. Keep going! Lance Armstrong lives in Austin and is always tinkering with human powered bike designs, but he isn't always successful. If you are into that stuff, there should be lots of stuff on the internet about it.

Ast -- braggart. :-) You old folks...

Ok. Back on topic. Has this topic jazzed anyone? Gotten the old grey matter juices flowing? I am working on version 2.6 of duckycam...hrmmm, perhaps a nitrox boost to his little propulsion unit...:-)

    Stay shiny!

Of course... if "life" was considered a, "job," then for some of these "old people" their, "work,' would almost be, "done"-- it would be like starting work on something that was nearly, "finished."

      Mmmmm... metaphor.

      As for the link...
There are RC cars that can accellerate faster that "fast" cars with internal combustion engines (over the short run.)

Do you really think it needs to go any faster? What you should do is take a Segway and mod that to run fast... I'm not sure it would be safe to ride at all, what with the leaning forward and all. I suppose once you get far enough past upright you can accelerate indefinitely without losing balance, but slowing down would be hell . Although a little while ago I did see an idea with the basic scooter design that could turn in a more...interesting..manner. Think skateboard wheels, lots of skateboard wheels...
I do know everything, just not all at once. This is commonly referred to as a "virtual memory" problem.

Well, you have to think about center of gravity. You could do something like this with a Segway, but it would require more human effort to maintain that center. What my little friend did, if you watch the vid, was make the scooter do most of the work. That's the thing. Make the vehicle do the work.

Yeah, I think what you mentioned in your last paragraph, it's an interesting trainer that has wheels that simulate being on skis. I beta'd some of those going down a hill above Lake Austin earlier this year. And I still have the road rash from it. Dang! That sucker was fun! Hrmmmm....oooooo! Dang! *me scampers off to make some phone calls....*

Preview: ROT Rally, Austin, TX. :-D I can see it now. A bald-headed chick on a hyper-powered dually-scoot. How delicious is that???

I will make you a half gallon of it if you like. Shall I serve it to you while wearing a thong? Would you prefer an actual glass or plastic cup?

Anyway, I practically did a double take when I saw that. Must have been hard for the guy to maintain his balance.

                    Hacking.

                    Hello.

Hacking is whyat you make of it.
For most here, taking a "box" and popping Linux on it, perhaps a few case mods, overclocking, cooling, more overclocking, case mods for the cooling,,,.
Others, cracking the latest 2 way radio encrypion, taking a talkie out of band, that sort of thing.
So, taking a scooter "out of the box" is most clearly hacking.
I like to do the wing pack thing, aviation hacking.
Hacking is all about breaking out of the box.

there are modifications to a piece of hardware or technology which take it to an unanticipated level, make it do something that the manufacturer didn't intend, or just generally exhibit creativity and originality of function. then, there are modifications that are 100% visual, do not enhance the technology's function, power, or capability, and are designed to be exclusively in the "look at me, gee aren't i fucking something" vein.

i'm not saying aesthetic creativity isn't pleasing. god knows, the world needs more of that... but i don't think things like case mods, vehicle neon ground effects, or other gaudy-ass nonsense makes much of a statement about who someone is as a person... it merely is a vehicle for them to show off how much money they can piss away on something wholly useless.

just a thought that poked its way to the surface in my brain. ok, random rant over.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Its funny you might say this in the context of case mods. So many of them are overdone and gaudy. Only a handful are tasteful and exercise restraint. No, really, its not THAT good looking to put a light on half the things inside the computer!

Here's a nice mod, although I seem to have trouble finding the actual computer. :)

I think case modding is fine. It allows you to take something which is mass manufactured and add your own personal touch to it. Why not have something that's both useful and aesthetically pleasing at the same time? Plus, it just looks cool.

And anyway, mine has an extra fan, which increases its usefulness! :D

A computer's exterior isn't like your cubicle. It doesn't need to be fancy, or tell anyone about you. You don't do work with the box itself, and its largely unnecessary taht it performs any function besides that of its internal components... On the other hand, your computer desktop, settings, etc. not only reflect what you do but you actually do something with them regularly. If you want to change the settings for your mouse because you're tired of looking at it, thats fine. If you want to mod your case because you look at it too often, hide it under your workstation. It's not a showpiece. It performs the same functions if its next to your feet as it does next to your monitor.
