Me flings her arms around DO...

I love you I do! I do! wikipedia, unfortnately is a an compendium of non-knowledge.
I wish it were not so, but it is.

And the fact that motors all these years operate based on the electric fields of something, is there a possible way to ride the Earth's waves starting at the south pole and then out of the atmosphere and then disengaging somehow? If all it took were a form of electricity consumption, thats a relatively cheap to come by compared to the solid and liquid fuels being used in most rockets.

The idea of used EM waves for lift is not new, and yes as valkyrie point it out, radiation produce a "pressing” force again any surface. NASA had been playing for nearly 20 years, with the idea of solar sails in order to acquire propulsion, this is by far more practical because saves the weight drag of fuel.
In order to understand the process of absorsion and emission just do this simple experiment get a camera with a flash, get a phosphorescent material, get inside a dark room, now do not get blinded by the flash and flash as much light as possible on the material, open your eyes and you will see the material sending back light. This same phenomena applies to almost every atom, and the frequency (wave length) and amplitude ("strength") of the EM radiation.
If you wish to see for yourself the lift capabilities, you may want to build a laser, the chamber of resonance and mirrors can be buy fairly cheap, you can pump a mix of HE,NE, and CO2 into it. keep it a low pressure and apply high voltage to it, the power supply can be build using two Fly-back transformers from old television and a car coil, you can build some capacitors using glass, fiberglass, and coins, specially the dollar coins they are better size. etc etc
then with your laser done. we need to create a vacuum chamber, I suggest a bulb lamp not perfect but is less then a dollar each, hit it until the filament is broken and you will see how the laser can move the filament from its position. Or for better results build a glass chambers, put a piece of aluminum paper kindly shaped into a tiny umbrella and balancing in a toothpick. Same effect with regular light, but the laser makes it nice and powerful :)
The EM effects of the earth could be useful to send an object like a model toy vehicle for example to spy in our neighbor, but the effect of the earth in an object is too small for moving passengers... other then insects, small roedors and microbes...
In order to move objects of bigger and more practical use, we need to harvest other properties of the EM phenomena. There is a lot to work but we are moving in the right path. All we need is more people thinking outside the box, not afraid to get dirty and able to spend un-imaginable amounts of time inside a abstracted representation of an idea, and finding the way to express it into a common language to others so we all can be playing in the same team and produce new ideas. There is a lot interesting work done as we speak, just take a look at recent publications:

The relation between the behavior of gravity and EM phenomena can be expressed in many different forms of equations depending on variable we want to investigate. Apply Fourier to a EM equation and get the wave frequency interactions, assume different environments, see the behavior of the waves when are transmitted into variable characteristics space, multidimensional, superheated, in the event horizon of a singularity etc. Now compare the behavior of gravitons in the same space, when a strong electromagnetic field is set in place, imagine you can shape the field and direction of it, can you see the changing behavior in the gravity transmission between for example two objects in their own gravitational field. Well, we have the tecnology to produce those EM fields, we had had for at least 20 years, but we have the ability now to make it more portable.

What is it that we are not connecting on here?
          Mostly your prose
Because excitation of photon activity to ellicit consumptable power is different than that which is necessary to excite light waves to ellict the same activity. Same principle, somewhat different application or causality.
was difficult for me to grasp. It still reads as a vapid statement of nothing to me, sounds like something I'd hear on Art Bell. Sorry.

No, I do not need to "find" energy that I don't have to pay for. Ever heard of solar?
You're using solar for an example? Thats an example in my favor. There's a local star that has been spraying out energy due to its own machinations for billions of years, and you finally come along and decide you might as well use some of it since you are getting sprayed either way.

Its nothing like conjuring energy out of empty space like you make it sound. Its convenient, since we didn't have to make the star or get it to start doing fusion. Its still a "found" source.

When I say you don't have to pay for... I don't mean your power bill. Some people out there (again, I desire to reference Art Bell here) think that they can find a power source that doesn't entail a net energy loss. Thermodynamics and entropy won't allow something like that to exist. In the most ideal case (since energy isn't destroyed per se), you'd find some source of energy that didn't take an input of energy, but in tapping it for power you would convert the energy to a form that is difficult to use again. By difficult to use again, I mean that if you could trap 100% of that converted energy, it would cost MORE to get it back than it is worth -- because of entropy.

          RE: Wikipedia

Most of the math and physics entries I've read on there are satisfactory to me. The one I linked is a little more anemic than the one I had in a text book, but it was good enough to inform the inquirer in this thread.

Maybe that is because wikipedia is not really meant for smart people

Im sure many idiots find it a plethora of information. (no offense idiots)

Solar sails are by no means practical on any level of thought, i geuss you have no idea how large one would need to be just to power a fridge size object.

Indeed, you will find they are in full swing without the money. where there is a will, theres a way.
