Sorry, no April Fools prank from me on the forums this year -- ran out of time while on vacation.

Blakdayz has been promoted to be a Goon and SuperMod on the Defcon forums. As many of you know, he is the primary coordinator for all DCG. This new access is to provide him with extra tools to help him with his job as the primary DCG Coordinator. Welcome blakdayz!

    Other updates:

GreatScott!! is the primary organizer of official Defcon Entertainment. He has been the primary goon for things like the Pool Party, the B&W Ball, and other Defcon Parties. He recently asked to have some of these forums re-opened for Defcon 21. Two have been opened:
Major Forum Container for all Defcon Entertainment Forums:

    https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=705

    Sub-forum for general Entertainment discussion:
    https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=706

An announcement by GreatScott! will be coming soon to the "General Entertainment" subforum.

"The Summit" An EFF Fundraiser run by members of Vegas 2.0 has been announced as returning to Defcon 21. A new forum has been created:

    https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=710
    twitter: https://www.twitter.com/effsummit
site: http://www.vegassummit.org/ (error message ATM. This may be an obsolete URL.)
Description: "Summary: theSummit is a Fund Raiser for the Electronic Frontier Foundation on Thursday Night between Black Hat and DEF CON events.(twitter), (site)"

The Defcon Hardware Hacking Village has been announced as returning to Defcon 21.
A new forum has been created for it:
    https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=711
    twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/DC_HHV
Description: "Just as the name implies, this is a forum for discussion of the new Hardware Hacking Village. (twitter)"

Be The Match is planning to return to Defcon 21.
A new forum has been created for them:

    https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=712
    site: http://www.marrow.org/
    blog: http://bethematch.typepad.com/
    twitter: https://twitter.com/BeTheMatch
    facebook: http://www.facebook.com/BeTheMatch
    Signup: http://www.marrow.org/JOIN/Join_Now/join_now.html

Description: "Back for its third year! Take part of the coolest "Bio-Hack" around... register with "Be the Match" at DefCon, and take the first step to become a Bone Marrow Donor. (site), (blog), (twitter), (FaceBook), (Sign-up/Signup)."

Added eris as forum leader/organizer to "Defcon Short Story Contest" under the Defcon 21 space. (She is taking this over from Nikita as the primary organizer of this contest.)
(Other judges can be added later once the list of returning judges is known. Please be patient. I have an old discussion in PM with eris, and a just brought it up again today.)

Beverage Cooling Contraption Contest forum has Nz0 as a forum leader/organizer.

Goon and user priest added as forum leader/organizer to the "Spot the Fed" forum.

User Abstrct added as forum leader/organizer to the "The Schemaverse DEFCON Tournament (When Space elephants attack )" forum for Defcon 21.

User HighWiz has been added to the "DC101" forum as a forum leader/organizer.

Deviant Ollam has been added as a forum leader/organizer to the forum "Defcon Shoot" and "Lockpicking Village"

User DaKahuna has been added as a forum leader/organizer to the forum "Wireless Village"

User Bluknight added as a forum leader/organizer to the forum "Skytalks"

Please remind if if I have omitted to edit the existing forums to include a previously approved forum leader/organizer back to have controls of their respective forums this year like previous year.

Sorry about forgetting this. Thanks to HighWiz for reminding me. :-)

Thanks for the correction. I've applied the name change to the forum and the description. :-)

    2. i no longer run the BCCC event. NzO has taken that over completely.
Right. I was so familiar with you running it, that when I read your reference to it in this post I didn't read more details to see that is it being run by other people.

I've since sent an email to the forum account associated with the user claiming the same name, and am waiting for a reply. Without response from him by end of January, I'll probably remove the forum until there is confirmation from him.

    Thanks again, man. :-)

    two quick notes:

    1. it's really just "Lockpick Village" most of the time when we say it. Although "Lockpicking Village" is ok, i suppose. But we don't tend to hyphenate it. And Lockpick / Lockpicking are always just one word.

    More updates about Defcon 21

First, to clear things up: my previous update mentioned Wireless Village
and included text that said it was returning for Defcon 20. This was my
fault for copying text from last year and not updating it. DaKahuna found
my mistake, notified me of it here and on the forums, and I've since changed
the three references to "Defcon 20" to read "Defcon 21."
This is editorial comment to let you all know about my mistake and correction.
    Sorry about that DaKahuna!

    Next, new business:

I received word from HighWiz that he plans to bring back "DC101" to Defcon 21

    DC101:
    Forum: https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=703
    Site: http://defcon.stotan.org/dc101/
    Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/defcon101
Description: "DC101 is the Alpha to the closing ceremonies' Omega. It's the
place to go to learn about the many facets of Con and to begin your Defconian
Adventure. Whether you're a n00b or a long time attendee, DC101 can start
you on the path toward maximizing your DefCon Experiences. (site), (twitter)"

I received word on twitter from MyCurial that he plans to bring back
"10,000¢ Hacker Pyramid" to Defcon 21:
    URL1=https://twitter.com/myrcurial/status/283787439112351744
    URL1 wrote:

    10,000¢ Hacker Pyramid
    Forum: https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=702
    Site: http://hackerpyramid.com/
    Twitter: https://twitter.com/HackerPyramid
Description: "Back for DEFCON 21 - The 10,000¢ Hacker Pyramid!!!
Come and be a lucky audience member who will participate with a
DEFCON Celebrity in a fast paced game of Pyramid! It may be the
last Dick Clark property to be Seacrested... so we're bringing it to
you FIRST! Every contestant has a chance at the FABULOUS PRIZES -
all the way up to the GRAND PRIZE of 10,000¢!!!!!!! (site),(twitter.)"
(Description is subject to change, especially about the prizes:)

A later tweet on a possible replacement of the 10,000 Canadian Pennies:

    URL2=https://twitter.com/HackerPyramid/status/285165214448627712
    URL2 wrote:
    > @HackerPyramid (HackerPyramid)
    > What say ye - The Quadrillion Dollar Hacker Pyramid?
    > (10 100 Trillion Zimbabwean Dollar bills)

This means the title and description are likely to change. When I get
an update, I'll pass it on.

    Thanks!
The forums have the correct description as a result of your email about that, but I forgot to revisit this announcement and edit it too. Fixed. Sorry about that!
