I am putting them together now, Expect the DC 14 video & audio to be available soon. (Hopefully within the next 2 weeks.) As for Black Hat, Those should be released sometime shortly after. I do not have an expected release date for those, but am hoping it will be soon.

hehehehe.... those of us in the inner-circle of the travelling terabyte project have actually already loaded the DC14 mp3s and mp4s onto the new volumes. they'll be part of the tan TTB which will start making the rounds as soon as the OD green one comes back to me so i can do overall maintenance, sync, organization, etc.

we'll have to get a new recipient list organized soon. if you would care to nominate someone feel free to PM me. we're still trying to keep it (at least for now) as a list of people who were obligated in some way to miss cons recently, either due to service, job, charity work, etc. so if your brother was a katrina relief worker or your sister has been performing in USO shows at far-flung air force bases, etc. perhaps they deserve a visit from on of the TTB cases.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

..hmm. client not showing any seeds/peers? .. symptoms? If you have a specific request I can toss it onto my webserver for a short bit; I just avoid it because then all the bandwidth gets sucked by 3 people in the middle east individually downloading the same ISO.

Yeah, the only reason those speeds aren't stable is ..well, it depends how many *different* torrents get pulled off my box at a given time.. cowf hash tables are pretty popular atm with 3 seeds and 9 peers.. 2Mbit is my max upload off the home connection until I magically find money, or jesus .. I hear he's got individual OCs for every port on his firewall.

I've purposely avoided downloading anything of size from Iraq because while the bandwidth is decent I'd rather save it for other things. Besides, I have cable internet at home doing nothing, so I share everything from there.

This is what I do-- because the person promised the beer probably won't forget, even if I do.

Hooray for human swap space (aka, paper-form.)

Great news on the DC14 content.

Re: Past DEF CON Conference Content

Hey converge and (others who are seeding :p), Thanks again for being the only seed..I finally completed blackhat and defcon torrents after weeks of waiting :p appreciate it ! Theres a little problem though, I dont know why but a few talks are incomplete, namely the Johnny Long - Google Penetration hacking talks both on defcon and blackhat....anyone have the complete talk from johnny long ?

Since defcon14+blackhat06 torrents are going to be released soon, I wanted to ask about the quality.....I noticed that defcon AND blackhat (last year) had poor video quality (Im not complaining :), it was nearly impossible to see the slides), so if bh+dc 06/14 video is not yet encoded for release, Im sure people will appreciate a slightly higher quality video release.

                  Thanks guys :) Very appreciated.
(P.S: Converge, keep seeding the recon torrent :..: its going on slow..thx)

From what I've heard, I'm not certain that the quality issues were due to encoding. To my knowledge the source audio/video was somewhat tainted and the encoding was just matched appropriately.

This is the one torrent that has me scratching my head. At many times you are the only peer consistantly connected to the box, yet you are only connecting in at 1-5KB/s max. At other times, like now, 0 torrents are being seeded .. then you'll magically pop back up. It does not make sense to me. *shrug* I'll keep investigating.

I've seen some torrent sources throttle the throughput of data to client with low sharing ratios, when nobody else is around. Add another client that can use the source and share/use the peer and I bet the speeds will improve for everyone using that torrent.

Re: Past DEF CON Conference Content

I just had to drop power to the box while I shuffled it over to a new resting place in the systems room. Before doing so I took note of a single downloader pulling from the recon2005 seed. It was going quite well, miraculously chugging along at 50-80KB/s .. quite a change from my last note. I also noticed that the seed had 0 active peers in the tracker .. quite odd.

So 1 of 2 possibilities is going on... either the tracker is more fucked than I understood it to be, or someone is using a less than sanctioned method to download from the seeds.

Ah ok..Thanks..Once I finish the recon torrent I'll seed it for a couple of weeks if anyone else is interested :)

Oh and again, Does anyone have the complete version of Johnny long's talk entitled "Google hacking for penetration testers/testing" ? I find it strange how in both BH and DC, this file is incomplete. If anyone has this talk, itd be cool if you could up it to some public server.

                          Thanks :)

                            New Media Server

The new media server is on the way to World Domination HQ!

With 750gig drives (mirrored) it will replace the old media machine whic is old and full. I'll config it up, and copy all the old media on it as well as the new DC-14.

In preperation for this if you want any of your media hosted on it, please let me know. We will have the space, and a fair bit of bandwidth. The only limitation is that it will serve content through http only, no bittorrent.

If you want something hosted email me or send DVDs to the DEF CON address. I'm looking for DJ sets, the DC TV filler content, contest videos, etc.

                            I can't wait!

Converge, Been stuck at 99.9 on the recon torrent, i think it'll finish sometime soon (hopefully) thanks again...

my question is : Does ANYONE have the complete talk of johnny longs google hacking for both defcon13 AND blackhat05 ? I find it strange that both talks are incomplete..

                              who has this ?

P.S: btw, alot of defcon 13 video and a few blackhat video has horrible audio..theres a very loud hiss/inteference going on (ears will hurt after a few mins), so whoever is encoding the new defcon14 and bh06 video plz take this into consideration. (HQ)

heh, dood ... like I mentioned above and as DT explained pages ago in this thread.. don't blame the encode... its not like they ripped "Defcon 13 The Movie" and chopped a mastered mpeg/ac3 as low as they could go. Quality is highly limited by their source video/audio. True, further mastering could help mitigate some of these blemishes, but would require additional editing efforts that would delay our enjoyment further than need be.

I'll have to check on the Johnny Long talk, but I think that's the best available via rss.

Odd about the 99.9% ... I'll have to logon to the box and make sure all is still well.
