I nominate converge to work on text for this event to e entered into the program. He seems to me to be the ideal candidate, since he knows many people, and is a kind of hub for such communication, and he is on the forums more than me, too.

What do you all think about this?

Naw. Here is a drunk 3 year old with sysdlexia. (dyslexia.)
"Ifff yoOOOou *burp* cuhwn weed dis *hick* yooo (pause) oou Pru*burp*ably wrote eht"
(Written like a drunk person might say it: "If you can read this your probably wrote it.")

        You write better than that.

The question I have, is who has been giving the 3 year old dyslexic girl booze?

Meeting space is available in the 106 to 110 range opposite the grand ballroom, or we can coordinate with Grifter and get a sky box. What say thou?
I think a sky box would be appropriate. Though it wouldn't really be needed unless we had groups presenting things or some sort of activity going on.

Personally, I think a homebrew beer competition held at the forum meet using various taste testings would be fun. I know there are enough brewers on here to make that easily happen too.

ok all.. so I've seen lots of good ideas cross by here, but all discussion and speculation. Here's what we need in relation to the forum meet: who is stepping up and doing what?

Are you bringing a game (scrabble, etc)? Will you formalize a subevent (homebrew, etc)? Will you or your group make a presentation (DCG, etc)?

Please post or email/pm me with solid intent, we'll make this years forum meet kickin.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

                  Re: What to do?

After doing some talking back and forth with converge, I'll be organizing some variation of beerpong for the forum meet. It won't be anything too formal, and we can come to an agreemnent on how many beers per round when we get there. The biggest question we have is what the likelihood is of bringing our own beer into the skybox.

I'll be coming up with specific rules, since everyone has different vaiations, while I'm hiding in the wilderness over the next few days.

the million dollar question now becomes: are you really talking about beer pong or are you talking about Beruit? Beer pong is a game played on a table the size of a regulation ping pong table with two or four players, each equipped with a paddle and a cup of beer in front of them. a ping pong ball is batted back and forth in standard volleys, with strikes against or into the cups leading to drinks consumed. Beruit, on the other hand, can be played on a much narrower table, with a larger array of cups (typically a triangle shaped out of ten) at each end. In Beruit, the ball is not batted by paddles but merely thrown with the hand.

i ask now for clarification so as to avoid the possiblity of me going on a semantics rampage, which can involve things as brutal as a chainsaw and sledgehammer when people mix up those two names.

i had heard that the hotel's setup was going to be all about skybox == profit... and that equated to no mass-importation of outside alcohol. (homebrew was alleged to be the only area where exceptions might be made)

since i just got back from the wilderness (was up in the mountains of canada) i'd be happy to help coordiante rule questions with you. here are some of the main questions that it's policy at our house to ask of the players before the game begins...

                      1. number of cups in play (this is almost always ten cups at each end, unless the game involves two-person teams which on rare occasions see larger pyramids)

                      2. volume of beer used to fill the cups. (this is typically two beers per player)

                      3. what to do about cups that are sunk.
                      - cups can be consumed and the array reduced in size (according to a specific pattern)
                      - cups can be left empty, with penalties for opposing teams who hit the empties
                      - cups can be refilled a pre-determined number of times with a pre-allocated set of "side beers" that players hold in reserve

                      4. what constitutes a throw
                      - are bounces allowed? how many?
                      - what can rule a throw dead? (contact with team's own side of the table? contact with a wall or ground? with another player?)

                      5. what constitutes a successful hit?
                      - if a ball bounces amid the cups and eventually sinks, is it just a hit on the final cup?
                      - if an opposing player or a bystander somehow contacted the ball in the air, is it still a hit or is it ruled dead? (we usually play "it still counts" since this discourages anyone interfering with throws... in fact, we sometimes count interference as an assumed hit. if you grab it in the air, you are assumed to have prevented a legitimate sink... the "it was going way off course" is not an excuse)

                      6. are "blow outs" allowed?
                      - this is a big one for lots of people
                      - sometimes a ball won't immediately "sink" but will instead "twirl" or "spin" around the rim of a cup. a player who makes a well-timed and forceful blow of air down on it can send the ball up and away from the table even as it spins... rendering the shot null. (if "blow outs" are in play)
                      - what if you blow out a shot and it lands in another cup? do you drink the final one or both?
                      - can you keep blowing cup to cup? (this is usually resolved with the rule of "a ball that is visibly spinning at the top of the rim can be blown... once it settles down below the rim and out of view -- even if it's still moving -- it is no longer valid for a blowout)

                      7. endgame... the throwback
                      - when one player is down to a single cup, we often play with a "throwback" rule at our house.
                      - if an opponent sinks a shot in someone's single remaining cup, the nearly-deffeated team has a single chance to throw a successful shot back. if they also sink, play continues normally.
                      - a variation... if the nearly-winning team has more than one cup of their own remaining, does the "throwback" count as a successful shot which further reduces the opponent's rack? or does it merely cancel out the near-win?
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

To my understanding, this is a fine line; there is no formal "if you do/bring this then you're ok". From what I've heard the cash bar resides outside the skybox and that is where the hotel wants partiers going to purchase their drinks, no exceptions.

The strictest sense of the policy meant possible demise to cool things like the annual homebrew exchange, showing off your cool BCCC, or whatnot. I did not like that idea. I inquired further and the unofficial word is simply: if you keep it under the radar, there will likely be no problem. ie, there won't be liquor police hawking over the skybox area. However, wheeling up a keg, walking down the hall with cases of drinks in hand, or otherwise casually bringing large amounts of alcohol to the room would likely be spotted in transit and prohibited.

This is my understanding.. mileage my vary. fwiw, I do hope that folks bring their homebrews to the meets, or feel free to show off their supercool BCCC at the events like the Forum Meet or Defcon Groups Meet.

We're hackers.. adequately and proficiantly circumventing inept policy should be second nature by now ;)

Deviant: I am well aware of the variations on the theme of causing a projectile to land in a red or blue solo cup which is partially filled with a liquid beverage.

As i said above, I'll be coming up with the rules which will be posted before you arrive.

No they will not be up for discussion, debate, or subect to on-site bitching.
