RC,Originally posted by RC Cannonhad a client that called me late to a meeting at his home, so i asked if he minded if i picked his front door while i was waiting for him. said no problem, then called me half an hour later asking where i was? told him i was in his living room having a beer. he said no you aren't. turned out his office had given me an address he had moved out of three months earlier. LOL
looking forward to seeing the new digs at the Rivera. is there anything i can do to help?
Great to hear from you. Wow, how awkward was that ? haha Was the beer at least good? I'm working on the list of things that need to be accomplished, then we can fix the list and get volunteers haha. Thanks in advance.

Quick question...will there be tables and backdrops available for usage at the Village?
Second question: Since we're people in a village, does that mean we have to dress like village people? ;) j/k no answer necessary for that one.Picking locks since '96.Comment

Tables I think will be a yes. Backdrops might be a little harder to come by. So you may want to bring something if you want a backdrop.Originally posted by VarjealQuick question...will there be tables and backdrops available for usage at the Village?

Re: Formal LPCON Planning May 2006
For the "Beverage cooling contest" there may be an age restriction where the "beverage" is concerned, but check with Deviant Ollam, as he would probably find a way to make it work for people of any age wishing to compete.Originally posted by bukodeni didnt see anything about this, but is there an age requirment for this or any other contest?
With the "Wireless Contest" being of "driving age" may be an issue as well as a "rental car age" if renting a car is desired.
The"TCP/IP Drinking Game" has frequently only included invitations to "well known people" who are on a panel to answer questions about TCP/IP and networking. Assuming it is run like it has been, selection will eliminate people under 21 years of age.
Hacker Jeopardy has had alcohol, and may have age restriction (21 or older) but talking to the organizer may allow you to find a compromise. (Arrangements have been made in the past, and people under 21 have played.)
Because of the cash award, the buzzword survivor contest may also have a minimum age requirement too.
I don't know of any other limits for other contests. Your best bet it to try to contact each contest's organizer for each contest you wish to try and ask each one individually, and then see what arrangements can be made for an exception.Comment

We don't have alcohol or gambling in the Lockpicking contest. Just remember that in some states, possession of lockpicks might be a problem on your return trip home.Originally posted by bukodenk, thanks for the info, now i just need to get ahold of doc...shouldnt be to hard to do thatComment

typically you can expect to pay between $30 and $50 for some of the nicer, larger sets. often, however, simple intro type picks are available in the $20 range. in the lockpick village we will have practice sets available which are very nice and which require a deposit of $25 (which is returned to you in full if the picks are brought back undamaged). in the past, some folks have opted to just never come back for their deposit, but it's up to you to decide which tools available at con best represent your skills and goals.Originally posted by bukodenok, how much do lockpicks usualy cost at the lpcon
as others noted, check the legality of owning lockpicks in your area before you attempt to travel home with them. municipal laws are a larger source of headaches than state laws in most instances. (also, sending picks home via FedEx or stowing them in your checked baggage is usually preferable to putting them in your carry-on, eventhough they are not specifically listed on the TSA's idiotic "forbidden" list)"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

that is, in fact, the actual law in places like texas and most other states. nearly all states have an "intent" clause in the law, which declares the picks illegal only if there's clear "intent" that you planned on using them to commit a crime. (it should be noted that a handful of states call possession of picks "prima face" evidence of one's ill intent and place the burden on the accused to prove that they weren't planning on committing a crime. like something out of Orwell or "minority report")Originally posted by bukodenaight, well i live in texas, and i think that it only illegal to use them in an illegal act (no kiddin) but i'll check again to be sureLast edited by Deviant Ollam; July 18, 2006, 07:13."I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. Hmmmm......We were anticipating a 10x10 space, preferrably with a nice white backdrop and table that we could decorate. The background would be used to show a looped "presentation." What sort of sponsorship and prizes would encourage traffic into the LP village? Or would you prefer to chat over MSN?
