    Re: toxicbbq.com: Food Run Addendum

Well assuming I make it out to the restaurant, I will be bringing hopefully at least 1 large bottle of sauce from a South Texas BBQ chain called Rudy's. They actually sell the sauce online.

Its got a unique flavor, kinda a zesty mesquite with crushed peppercorns.
I figure It's different, so why not bring it.

Stubbs BBQ sauce is always good.

The exotic meat website is interesting. Didn't know you could get kangaroo, llama, or bear online. I think getting some reindeer (caribou) for the cookout could be fun. Of course, you would need a big image of Rudolph with a circle around whatever part of the body the meat came from with text saying "How does Rudolph taste?"

Have you tired the alligator jerky, yourself Astcell?

I think other than beef jerky, the only other types I've tired are venison, elk, and rabbit jerky. They were all tasty and other than the rabbit jerky being too salty I'd eat them again. So if you do bring any I would be willing to try some and even help with the cost.

I have secured a 32oz bottle of Rudys BBQ Sause,
they spell it "sause" on the bottle.

Are we having a BBQ version of Coffee Wars? Sauce Wars Maybe?

                hahaha

I'll be bringing a bottle (probably a tupperware bowl actually) of some homemade bourbon BBQ sauce. It's a sweet sauce (think honey BBQ) that goes good with a lot of things, but is not the typical spicey sauce I enjoy. More of a condiment than a BBQ sauce, but I like it for non-beef/pork stuff like burgers, dogs, or spicy stuffed peppers.

Sweet, we'll have two types of liquored up BBQ sauce, seeing as how I'm bring a jar of my drunken BBQ sauce.

...interesting.. aahh, but who would be the judges for this craft? how would it work with store-bought vs homemade? .. would folks even be interested in such a diversion?

fwiw, it sounds like Renderman would have already bowed out of this, since he's already stated that he will be showing up sauceless this year. Too bad, that special sauce would have kicked ass if placed up against others ;p
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Would be cool. Judges could be the exotic meat crew. All contestants chip in a $1 per sauce to go to Deviant, winners get a free exotic meat selection? Of course I would think providing the judges with a little something to sample the sauce on would be a potential benefit to the judges.

Then we can wash it all down with the best coffee of coffee wars.

We are going to need some food magazines to cover all of this!

you know, i think it would be kind of fun to start up a "meat wars" competition, where people can submit a pound of their chosen flesh, either purchased or hunted, and i'll judge which is the best (of course, i'd need a panel of associate judges as well... the only qualification being that you need to be a huge fan of grilling and be able to consume sample after sample of meat)

heh, maybe i'll be running two contests at DC15... the BCCC and this!

hey there, this is Jess, Nobody's woman...we live here, and we have a costco membership...anything we can grab pre-bbq to save time and/or duplicated effort that would be handy to have beforehand?

                              cheers.

i can't speak for the toxic bbq crew as a whole, but if you wanted to pick me up a few things when you do your normal family shopping it would help me out a whole lot since i won't have a car at defcon.

seriously, though... i try to live cheap at defcon and like to buy my own food the first day (like fruits, bread, peanut butter, cereal, and some juices) and just live on it. i'd gladly pay you in full for anything you purchased (please, only if you're going to the store anyway) and give you free exotic meat samples at the BBQ as a thank you.

if you seriously were up for this, here's my shopping list...

1 loaf of bread (either potato bread or italian bread)
1 jar of peanut butter (reduced fat Jif is best)
1 bunch of bananas (like 5 or 6)
1 large bottle of light cranberry juice
1 large bottle of orange juice
a twelve-pack of gatorade (either purple riptide rush or basic-ass orange)
                                1 large box of rasins
                                four styrofoam coolers
                                1 roll of paper towels

four cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon
                                two cases of Corona
a six pack of something non-alcoholic (for under-21 contestants in BCCC)
                                1 bottle of J&B scotch
1 bottle of mid-shelf Vodka (nothing name brand but nothing in plastic, either)

hah... that should totally do it. if you pull that off, not only will you get free meat samples but also a free lockpick set, too! that, plus my undying admiration.
