Re: Defcon gave me insomnia! did you come back with any quirks?
I'm going through the usual Defcon withdrawl.
- Body is having trouble adjusting to the lack of heroic doses of caffine
- Ears are ringing
- Ears not used to the quiet
- Brain going through atrophy from lack of stimulus
- Body won't sleep more than a few hours
- Wierd flashbacks involving changing color lights, pirate flags, and a mythical half rabbit, half deer creature
- The desire to take apart everything (not a new thing, but more intense)
- Desire to learn and thirst for knowledge is off the charts
- Real food seems strange
- I was up till 2:30 am last night, pinning up training locks for Grey Frequency to learn to pick on and this did'nt seem strange
Re: Defcon gave me insomnia! did you come back with any quirks?
I wouldn't call it a quirk or ability, but a couple of nights after arriving home, I was fiddling with a pile of electronics on the coffee table. The converstion with my wife then went like this:
Her: What's that?
Me: A robot.
Her: You brought a robot home from DefCon?
Me: Yup!
Her: <shakes head; rolls eyes>

Re: Defcon gave me insomnia! did you come back with any quirks?
I go to bed at around 5AM and wake up sometime in the afternoon, and the other people around me find this weird.
I find that I no longer have the ability to communicate with the people around me - it's like a total immersion course in a foreign language/culture right now.
My body seems to be going through pizza-withdrawal.
(and Thorn - figures I'd join Defcon after moving to where nobody else seems to exist - I'm from the good land of Vermont)
Re: Defcon gave me insomnia! did you come back with any quirks?
-I can stay up much later and sleep much later in the day.
-I can drink much more.
-I cannot fall asleep before 1am.
I'm from MN, so partying until 4am in Vegas is like partying until 6am here... last weekend I ended up partying until 5am with some old friends and I wasn't tired, despite drinking much more than my usual limit. This is alright, besides trying to get up on Monday morning for work at 8am.
Re: Defcon gave me insomnia! did you come back with any quirks?
- I'm able to function on about 4-5 hours of sleep comfortably
- I find myself running tcpdump every time I access an open wifi connection
- Driving must be accompanied by D & B at earth rumbling volumes
- Each time I go through a door, I find myself carefully examining the locks
- I'm trying to come up with an effective way of placing an wifi detector in my car complete with LED's. Granted, the last time I drove for wifi was months ago...LEDs just seem cooler now
- My anti-social scowl that I developed during Bar review and perfected at Defcon is extremely effective in discouraging people to engage in single serving conversations with me
