The place of chice?
The alexis park is a decent hotel.
They put up with all our shit.
The hotel is wired.
What other hotel is going to put up with some dumb smuck putting oil in the pool and not kick us out.
What other hotel with very large and decent confrence rooms is going to put up with people putting sickers on the walls and windows and not kick us out.
The grounds are large and actuallly kept nice considdering what we put the area through.
What other hotel wants people of all ages hanging around in the lobby, by the pools and in the grass especially if they are just chatting or hanging out and not spending money.
While if you are over 21 or don't want to fork out the cash for the alexis it is not really "the place to stay" but it is a great hotel for the con to be held at.
Even if you don't stay at the axleis park there are still people hanging around leaning, chatting, or any of hundereds of activities all through the night durring the con.
P.S. This Hotel likes us don't do any of the dumb activities listed above in this post when attending the con this year because i for one enjoy having the con at the Alexis Park.
Also respect the goons they are your friends.Nuke 'um till they glow
then shoot 'um in the dark

nobody
is protesting where the con should be.
Wer'e talking about where to stay.
While you are right , staying at the Alexis has its advantages, but If you can't/don't want put the money they charge, there are other alternatives around.
The Alexis Park is not the only place, <-- unless you have that kinda money and you are ready to spend it then yes go for it.
As far as putting oil in the pool , you're not supposed to be doing that from the start. Really, believe me people, putting oil in the pool doesn't make you smarter

money is not an issue... although, if we're staying out there, I'd rather get the best place / $ than just the one where things are... maybe it's just cause we're not from the area...if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.Comment

Alexis Park Odds
As I understand it, the con has been banned from other hotels where the event was held in the past on a much smaller scale. What we need is a drinking team competition with the Canadian RAF since they were the previous hotel champs.
Of course I think the Hard Rock is giving million to one odds that the walkway lights at the Alexis Park will not be busted again for yet another year.

I thought people were just being stupid and kicking them over. In fact, it was that very thing that I was pondering when I tripped over one myself, knocking it over in the process. Nocturnal people, daylight, and alcohol aren't really conducive to keeping those lights upright.

DC neck strap
I'm looking for at least one DC neck strap. You know, that black logo strap that everyone had at DC 9 that around your neck and on the end is your DC badge. I'll pay postage and a small fee for the strap. This is a serious offer so only serious replies please. dexter269@hotmail.comComment

Vegas.Com is listening Alexis Park for $120/night that weekend. Is that the going rate this year? It was like $90 last year.
I'm waiting till after the first to book. I am debating on spending 4 nights at the Alexis, or spending Wed/Thurs at one of the strip joints. Amazingly, some of the nicer strip resourts are like $40 less than Alexis those nights.Comment

Alexis Park won't let me make a room reservation
I've been calling up the Alexis Park for every day for the past 2-3 weeks now asking if they are taking room reservations for DEFCON 10 yet and everytime I get the same answer:
Me: "Are you taking room reservations for DEFCON 10 yet?"
AP: "No"
Me: "Do you know when they will be open?"
AP: "No"
Me: "Ok, thanks, I'll call tomorrow"
Does anyone have any information on this? It would be of great help as I was wanting to get one of the large regal suites there for this con myself.

Yes, I faced the exact same dilemma you are facing. I heard that some people were able to make reservations and some were not, probably depending on whom you spoke with. Anyway, I went to a site called Vegas.com. I was able to book a suite through them. It cost like $140 a night, and they charge your credit card right there on the spot, but it got me a room at the Alexis. I dont know what they are smoking over at that hotel, but for some reason, you mention defcon or aug 2-4 and they all of a sudden know nothing about anything.Comment

Poly Morphed is Right
Poly Morphed is Right, it does depend on who you talk to. On my first attempt to make a room reservation at the Alexis Park I was told that all rooms for Aug 2-4th had been sold out, being that this was the beginning of October I didn't think this could be the case.
After waiting about 12 hours to make sure there was a shift change and I wouldn't have to talk to the same person, I called back and secured a suite. Which was only $138 a night. We're talking the two floor, jacuzzi on the stairs suite, not just the regular ones. So for those of you going through Vegas.com, I hope you've exhausted all other options because paying more for less, paying $140 for a regular room doesn't sound that great to me.
So be persistent and try to get the different shifts, it's worth it. I reserved my room on October 10th, so reserving one now should be no problem at all..: Grifter :.

"Hi I'd like to make reservations"
"For what day sir"
"August 2nd to the 4th"
"Is that for a conference?"
"Yes it's for DefCon"
"We're not taking reservations at this time"
"That's not true, i know three people who have made them"
"That was before we entered renegotiations on the contract and that contract hasn't been signed yet"
Sounds like the Alexis is dicking with DT or vice versa.
I'd consider booking at the Hard Rock, but for $240 a night or whatever god-awfull rate they charge I'll go to Bellagio or Mandalay Bay.Comment

Yeah I asked these guys the same thing this morning and got that exact same response about renegotiations. It would be really keen-a-roonie nice if DT would give us an idea of what is the deal with Alexis Park right now? I seem to recall there was like a 5-yr contract made with AP for Defcon? Right? So what gives? Could someone affiliated with the con or who can get DT's attention bring this up with him? That would kick ass. Thanks!Originally posted by Contrarian
