Re: Boston Versus ATHF
No kidding. I'll go with years of law enforcement training over 'i saws it on teh intarnet' any day. I actually had an interview candidate a while back who was applying Steampunk's philosophy to Information Security. He didnt have any experience or training, but told me with a straight face, he spent a lot of time reading about InfoSec on the internet. I thanked him for his time and let him know he didnt have to worry about us cutting into his googling time. :)
I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

Re: Boston Versus ATHF
He should have spent more time learning to apply for Jobs. That wouldn't even get a person a job at RadioShack.
I wouldn't even trust someone with a BS in Electrical Engineering, and a few years in chemistry. With low tolerance compositions any 1 of finite elements in a open, and dynamic environment could cause reaction, and no expert in the world could change that. You might as well have an ex IRA field agent doing the work(clitche.)Comment

You mean, that someone said that he's ready to deal with, i mean disarm for example blasting assemblies in field environment (read : reality) reading or watching on the monitor ?No kidding. same question: Do you gamble on a boxer on his first fight learning to fight by books ? His is some sort of kamikaze, i prefer to step aside, far aside, leting him doing everything he can imagine. i don't want to be "deceased"- stamped because "someone"'s stupidity. His first experience would be his last one.

Perhaps I didn't communicate well enough or everyone simply did not read what I had typed. Especially my analogy to that of the young man who knows when he is NOT seeing sex after having learned what sex is from internet porn-watching. I did NOT say that one could dismantle a bomb after having read about explosives. In fact, I'll repost my prior postings on this subject so that you see how absurdly it was blown out of proportion:
"That's not true. Anyone has the potential to know how to handle explosives without actually having done so. Also, anyone can quickly find out how the city bomb squads are trained for situations such as these by doing a Google search."
"I just think that it's totally possible for someone to understand that situation without having experience in diffusing bombs. Or in your example, the virgin could most likely tell if the person was not having sex based on his pr0n-looking."
"anyone can quickly find out how the city bomb squads are trained for situations such as these by doing a Google search."
I guess I can see how that can be taken differently. What I mean is that there are ways to determine if the bomb squad did its job effectively: how they arrived on the scene, how they handled press, how they coordined off an area, whether or not they determined if it was actually a bomb beforehand. These are all things that anyone is able to research by other means. You don't have to be a bomb professional to understand bomb squad policy matters.Last edited by TheCotMan; February 11, 2007, 13:22. Re: Boston Versus ATHF
You know something is hilarious when a response to it links to an article with the phrases "Pickens county," and "Blue Yonder." Now we just need a Gomer Pile montage.
I think the best way to describe this whole ordeal is Fear Mongering, and P.C. fundamentalism. If people would only react this way to real problems.Comment

I think it's also important that people become more familiar with their environment and less afraid of technological neuance. We can't have everyone thinking that newfangledgizmo=bomb or we won't get anywhere as a society/culture. I generally despise anti-technologists."The world cannot live at the level of its great men." -Mamoru OshiiComment

Re: Boston Versus ATHF
I would sign up for that in a heartbeat!now THAT would be an absolutely OUTSTANDING breakout session this year... introduction to basic soldering and circuit assembly. LostBoy could draw up the diagrams, we order the parts and then make them available to participants at cost (or a slight markup to cover time, effort, etc) and in the end, if people do things correctly, they go home with a working Ignignot or Err... or both if they're a fast study and quick with a soldering iron.
i think people would easily pay at least $40 to $50 for one of those kits... how much would the raw supplies actually cost?
we should start a discussion as to what features or modes our DC version of the sign should have."There are no failed experiments, only more data"Comment

The device was a traffic counter, installed by the city or a contractor.
I'll rest my case now that the paranoia level and critical thinking level in Boston are at opposite ends of the scale from where they should be.Never drink anything larger than your head!
