  • Urban Survival Training

So everyone here knows what defcon is, that it covers many different tips and tricks.

Urban Survival is a key that unlocks the doors to a whole new world of social engineering, information discovering, and athletic prowess.

I'm slightly knew to this area when it comes to ...well anything not around my street... But I've been told of a few interesting key points to this town and also informed that there is a fairly decent amount of people who like to do Sewer Running.

Anyone interested in adding their knowledge to Urban Survival Training or interested in partaking in a scheduled event, please feel free to email me and we'll get things together and have a blast!

A quick word of advice, summer rainy season for Las Vegas usually falls around Defcon time and anyone around early for Defcon 7 will remember sloshing around ankle deep water in the Alexis Park lobby.

Those of us from Chicago really can't explore Loop tunnels thanks to a little flood some 15 years back...

One site that should be in everyone's urban survival bookmark file is Doug Ritter's Equipped.com site!

Nice little website. Hard to navigate but interesting nonetheless.

This Saturday is going to be an exploration day. I plan on getting extremely sweaty while looking for places to do some great Urban Exploration at. If anyone is interested, just toss a reply and I'll PM you with details of where we can meet up at or a phone number if you need to get in contact.

      Catch yu' later.

Hm, perhaps sometime this next weekend some people would be willing to give some urban exploration another shot? If not, then atleast if anyone is interested at all, let me know when we can all head out to do so. I know a week in advance isn't much advance.

Sounds like an interesting way to have fun.. Have you found a couple of places
to do this? If so, then perhaps we can get a group together.. It's been a while
since I've ran through the poop to see where it went.. lol

            Re: Urban Survival Training

I have a couple of places in mind. I'll have to run it by whoever else would be wanting to go so that we can make sure that they are places of interest and not just a dangerous event waiting to happen. Let me know if you have anywhere in mind, and we'll share notes.

I'm game on the weekends. Abandonments would be cool if we have anything around here.

I've only found one abandonment so far that seems worthy in my opinion, yet there has to be more around here...Somewhere. So where to? Any ideas? I've heard there is an old hospital in town, yet it is heavily secured with patrols carrying shotguns haha... A dead hospital or something of the like would be interesting but not coming out looking like swiss cheese.

                  Re: Urban Survival Training

Hospital? You sure you don't mean an old farm house across from a certain
fire house located west of town.. I believe it's rumored that there are patrols
wearing pointed white hats and carrying shotguns.. ;) Definately not the
                  place to be..

                        Re: Urban Survival Training

Pointed white hats huh? ... Hmm... Well that doesn't sound like the place I am talking about thankfully although the shotguns are the same...Pellets flying at a high rate are the same no matter how you look at them, with a glare or a smile. The hospital is guarded by a company that works for NorthWest Texas Hospital and NWT uses it to store some equipment in still.

How about the building downtown that used to be called the Herring Business Building or something along those lines? I saw a fallout shelter symbol on the side of it, and noticed a popped out window that leads to the basement... Only one small problem though... It's right across the street from the people who make this city "safe" haha.

There's gotta be someplace around here... Ah well if we can't find any buildings, then how about a good sewer run? Or I even know of one of the entrances to the underground tunnels that run beneath Downtown Amarillo. I've heard that there are plenty of interesting things down there if you take the right tunnels.

                          Re: Urban Survival Training

I did some digging and was able to get in contact with the owner of the Herring Hotel. We should be able to get access some time after mid july. I told him we would take lots of pic's and I would build a few web pages on the site. I think this is a awesome building and a great opportunity.

Interesting! Our July meeting should be on the 14th.. So perhaps we
can setup an expedition for the 21st or 28th and have the whole group
participate.. Outstanding work on getting in contact with them, Philomath!

Awesome work. A trip sometime in July with the whole group sounds like great plan. Get as many pictures as we can and hang out.
