Re: Hack Your Sleep... a group project i'm starting, not for the weak-willed
I just saw on the new recently that they did a double blind study of students trying to determine whether or not staying up all night to cram for tests improved or decreased test scores when compared with people who got 8 hours of restful sleep.
The results were that the people who got the sleep did better on the tests.
In Nevada during Red Flag they take a mid week break where they let the military personnel competing go into Las Vegas. The following day they seem to have a very high rate of crashes and major mistakes.
Personal experience is that the longer you stay up the more tweaked you become and not capable of making good decisions. Adrenalized situations like life or death ones I imagine mite buy you a little more sane time.
If you do plan to get less sleep take good care of yourself, eat, drink lots of fluids especially ones that replace lost electrolytes, and take vitamins.
