You know what Cot, I still watch Real Genius, Hackers, Tron and a bunch of other movies - they are often on in my lab in the background as I build Mystery Challenge devices ;)

Cheesy? Yes. Old? Yes. Classics? Yes.

Better than the shite that comes out these days... :)

Yeah, Primer is a film that grew on me with time.

I liked Sneakers and Real Genius too, but dare I type it?

    Aren't these a little old too? ]:>

Let's set the WayBack* machine for the distant year of 1985, around 23 years ago:
Real Genius came out in 1985, when record stores still existed, and there were not only multiple typewriter manufacturers, but stores dedicated entirely to selling typewriters, the USSR still existed, The Amiga 1000 is released, PC-AT, based on the Intel 80286 chip has been available for about a year with 1.2 MB 5.25" floppy disk drives, the GNU manifesto is published by Dr. Dobb's Journal, CAT1 wiring is introduced, Intel introduces the 80386, at 16 MHz, the Nintendo Entertainment System becomes available.

*WayBack: which as a word is in and of itself is a relic of the past

Moving forward in time to only 16 years ago, we arrive at 1992:
Sneakers opens in 1992, the USSR has fallen and Terminator 2: Judgement Day is also in the theaters this year (coincidence?), Linux is about 1 year old late this year, PGP was introduced less than a year ago, this year also sees Intel release the 486DX2, MIME standard is defined, VESA local bus is introduced,

    Anyone feel old yet?

Hah... i was about to post about the film again, seeing this thread with some activity, but i am pleased to see that you mentioned it here.

Heh, it's been so long that I'm probably remembering the film badly at this point... thinking it cooler than it actually is. I do specifically remember some scenes from DefCon that were pretty terrific, however.

So yes, again... my usual plea goes out to the community. If anyone has 0wned (a proper copy... not some RealMedia encoded VHS rip) i'd be super thrilled to get it from you. I'm so eager to finally find this film that you can have 15 minutes alone with the Traveling Terabyte of your choosing... no cameras, even.

    Drat! Foiled again!
You used your super powers to post to my closed thread instead of starting your own.
(William Shatner Acting Voice)I... feel... so.... ab-used.... ;-)

Split reply from place-holder to new thread, opened it for general posting/replies, and deleted the place-holder.
I also moved the posts about Hackers are People too" to this forum with redirects from the original locations that expire in 2 months, leaving the original threads here.

    .. suggestions?
I'm a fan of a 1-2 punch with a showing of 23 - Nothing is as it seems, followed by The KGB, the Computer and Me, but I think these might be a bit too historic for many of the attendees.

WarGames is also in the same set, where age is a consideration.

Startup dot com wasn't really that good the first time I saw it, and I doubt is has improved.

Others, which are probably too new:
    Can You Hack It? (2008)
Wargames: The Dead Code (2008) (V)
