    My bust

I know about the netstumbler link, but what I am looking for is a way to do the mapping myself without exporting the data.

Sounds simple but I can't find anything and don't know enough.

Greetings, actually I would suggest that you use Microsoft MapPoint2002. You can use either of these MP2K2 plugins:
Mother's StumbVerter(uses NetStumbler exported Summary Files)
      http://www.sonar-security.com/
      -or-
tthomas' Netstumbler MapPoint2002 Add-in(uses NetStumbler exported Text Files)
      http://www.engo.com/netstumbler

Currenlty StumbVerter has a 5000AP limit, which I found out the hard way. I have yet to use the other plugin. Though both of these are a lot better than the plain old perl scripts out there, or excel macros out there that churn the exported text/summary into an excel friendly format to import into MP2k2...

Also NetStumbler is an independent application, and only provides logging information(GPS+AP info) in various formats, nothing more.

I wonder if we can get 2 cards (assuming we have 2 slots) and get double the speed?

                      Hmmm

I got my Tecra 8000 (running linux and 98) and my Lucent WaveLAN/IEEE (orinono rebranded) and net stumbler and airsnort working ok. Unfortunately the only GPS I own is a magellan 4000XL ( I got it for $5 at work). These units require a special data/power module to pull data off the damn thing. The units are old and I don't think many of the data/power modules were ever made/sold. I found one on EBay for $90 which is a little steep when I can buy a eTrek for just about that. I am trying to resist buying a whole new GPS just to wardrive. So I expect I will show minus a GPS for my rig.

If you intend on doing the wardrive contest it is required that your logs contain GPS coords.

I personally use the Garmin eTrex Legend, which is a total overkill, and would have been completely fine with a Basic model.

If you haven't already check out NetStumbler.com someone may have already built the cable out of a few parts:
                        search the board first
                        http://forums.netstumbler.com/search...der=descending
and if you don't find anything post a question. surely someone is bound to answer with some type of helpful answer.

or you can search google to see if anyone has publicized the plans for a hacked cable.

                              wardriving contest logs

I am upgrading my kit with an external antennae and a GPS but I am starting to wonder about what log requirements there are for the GPS data.

Is there anything posted on what format the data needs to be in for the contest?

as per the official annoucement posted here:
                                http://www.securitytribe.com/wardrive.html

At the conclusion of the WarDrive, each team will submit their data to the contest judges in wi-scan/wl-scan format

The location (latitude and longitude) of a qualifying AP must be submitted

Most stumbling apps have this export option.
