Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
Well, risk assessment is what we all do in some way or another. You have to determine what level of risk you're comfortable with. I wouldn't leave it in your vehicle at all. Vegas hotels are a high prowl area. Heck, I know a DEFCON attendee who had his friends car get stolen while it was parked at the conference.
Locked up and tucked away in your room is probably a good idea. I would even go further by disabling the weapon, maybe lock up the bolt or such in the hotel safe.

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
Would it be better to keep the firearms locked in their cases in the hotel room, or checked with the front desk, or (guessing not this one) in the vehicle?
It's not the legality of transporting/storing them that concerns me, but their security while I'm not there. I'm planning on bringing at least one rifle, so the room "safe" won't be an option.
Maybe I'm too worried about it, but I'd hate for any of them to go missing.Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
I've only been to DefCon once, and never done the shoot, but looking forward to it this year!
Will be bringing some arms, but I'm a bit concerned about storage at the hotel since I've never traveled with them before...Leave a comment:

FYI.
The 900 acre Clark County Shooting Park should be open by the time Defcon rolls into Vegas.Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
I'm going to try and get a larger car this year. I had a Dodge Caliber last year. The joke was if it was really a caliber, it would be a .22. Thing was the most underpowered POS I've driven in a long time. If I can get a larger car, I'll try to take more than myself and 2 others in it. If ammo prices stabilize in the near future I'll bring out some of the heavy stuff. I've got new NFA goodies in my collection as well.Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
Funny you should mention that. I have a friend that is working on building a ammo production business in the area (and Defcon Attendee!) and would be very likely to help out with both parts of your question, depending on what calibers you need.

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
Range is out in BFE, so I doubt they would sell ammo at a good price. We just hit the Wal-Mart thats over by the airport. It's also next to a Sonic, so .223 and cherry lime-aid for the win!Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
Is there a convenient place to stop for an ammo run on the way or does the range have ammo at a reasonable price?Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
This will be my first DefCon, but I would be very interested in this. I don't have any weapons to bring with me, but if they have rentals or someone will let me borrow I'm definitely down.Leave a comment:

I'll be coming to DefCon for the first time, but I'd definitely be interested in this. I've got a Mosin Nagant to add to the pile of fun too.Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
people generally carpool. last year, i had a huge spreadsheet that i put together which noted how many people were in what cars, how many free seats they would have, etc etc. we made it all work rather well, if i recall.
i plan on doing that again, as well. as we get closer to DEFCON (basically, just let me get past ShmooCon, which is the second biggest item on my calendar every year) i'll start organzing things like ride sharing again.Leave a comment:

I'd be interested too.
What are the transportation options to get out to the range?Leave a comment:

Re: anyone interested in doing this again?
sweet, man. i am likely bringing new items this coming year, too, including this latest piece that i put together with an AR receiver which i had laying around. basically i just went for the longest barrel i could obtain and set it up with a free-float kit, etc...
indeed, many of us are quite familiar with 50 BMG. if i'm not mistaken, Barret rifles made an appearance at the DEFCON Shoot of old.Leave a comment:
