I'm interested in going, but I don't know if I can get to the Riviera by 7, so I'm definitely a maybe.
edit: can't make it. oh well.

    just for you, Thorn...

    click for audio ;-)

The greatest part is that this isn't a photoshopped setup. I mean, yes, i used photoshop to adapt the lighting and hue to match that scene... but that's actually the front porch of the fellow who was hosting the Deer and Beer event that i attended today. Knowing in advance that it was a perfect "any street USA" just like in the film, i made sure to pack a flag i had purchased on the ShakaCon trip and made a funny phone call...

"hey, how exactly would you feel about taking a photo in your front yard if my M1A rifle was involved?"
"that sounds swell. let's do it!"
"great! and, uhm... how will your neighbors feel about this?"
"eh, it probably won't surprise them all that much"
    "that sounds... uh... hmmmm."

Count Doodle & I in the "newbie" column. I'll have a car, also, with definite extra seating and a fair bit of cargo space.

Count me in. i will have a car and i might have an extra seat depending on if the guns will fit in the trunk without folding the back seats down.

Indeed, hell just bullets for reloading are up to a buck a pop for .223, if you can find them that is. And may whatever deity you worship help you if you're looking for handgun ammo. Even Wolf's manufacturing plant in Orange County is a dry well lately.

She is beautiful, Deviant. You have every right to boast about her... Besides, I'd rather see pictures of hardware than babies any day.

i had no trouble picking up .308 the other day... in the Garden State, of all places. people say it's scarce, but i paid basically a dollar per round at a sporting good store when taking possession of my new M1A. (i should stop mentioning it, out of a desire to not seem crass or gabby... but like a proud parent i'm just really, really thrilled with this new addition to the family. ok, that's the last time i post the link to the photos anywhere.)

stories of .380 ACP for pistols on the other hand... those are nuts. there isn't any of that stuff anywhere. and i have seen signs in stores limiting buyers of .45 ACP to two boxes each. it pays to have thought in advance and keep 1,000 rounds minimum for all your personal calibers in one's zombie stash.

This is very much the case here in Maryland, too.

BTW: Yes I am interested. Anytime I can pull trigger I will. I personally will be reloading about 200 rounds for my .308 and maybe some .223/5.56 as well. Did I see there was a marksman challenge??

yeap, as soon as i heard that i thought it was Alaska... they're the only one with that policy. i feel it's likely geared towards seasonal hunters who travel with their own game loads up north to take out large creatures... they don't want to alienate serious sportsmen who don't buy off the shelf perhaps.

either way... i love them for that policy and have had the exact same idea you did. i want to see what they would do with a suitcase full of ammo. hah.

Holy crap. I thought you were off your nut for a second, but I'll be damned it is 50lbs. Kind of makes me want to bring a suitcase that weighs exactly 50lbs (the limit for bags to not be charged) and have it full of ammo.

Another option is to hit the walmart thats on the way into town from the airport.

"as much ammo as you can get through check-in" usually consists of 11 lbs. of ammo total... whether all in one bag (sometimes not allowed) or in separate pieces of luggage. if you're traveling with other people, they can also carry their own allotment of ammo.

if you'd like to know how individual air carriers' rules vary on ammo (and firearms in general) check my page about that here. if you fly to DEFCON (or anywhere else, for that matter) with firearms, please consider filling out this brief questionnaire and telling me how it goes.
