  • Hauling In Your PC

I've seen pictures of people at the Defcons with notebooks and such. My notebook is a POS so I was wondering how many people bring their larger systems. And if that was normal to bring their system in even if it wasn't a notebook. Tower/Flat panel. No need for speakers, bringing headphones.

I just don't wanna look like a idiot and bring my system and everyone says, "This is notebooks only." Because I havn't seen one single picture with normal systems YET. Thank you.

    Full Systems

There is usually one hallway that is back behind the vendor area that is packed with tables and full systems. People just hook up to the network and veg. You won't look stupid.

One word of caution that is never said too much. Do not use clear text when checking email or going into ftp servers etc, if they are your own accounts. If you are on the network, assume that your clear text accounts will be comprimised if you use them.

              full size

Full systems are fine, in fact one vendor sells a carrying strap setup to carry your mid-tower, keyboard and such. Maybe they need to build a special backpack for the monitor. I think it is Jinks who has the carrying case for the desktop PCs.

Oh, and don't take your PC or other electronics into the pool. It's been tried. :p

wouldn't be too difficult to make a complete system rig up... use the weight of the system to counter the monitor balanced over your shoulders, hikepack style...

of course, at that point I'd probably break and buy a cheap laptop..
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

                  smaller PCs

I'm surprised I have not seen one of those Walkman size PIII computers with the glasses that are the monitor, and the keyboard that straps to your arm and the ring mouse. Or are toys like that out of the budget of most attendees?

Toys like that are nice, toys like that sometimes get stolen... you sometimes have to nail your shit down. If you wear something like that, well, don't stand too close to the pool... heh, he said "pool"

                        ewwwwwww

So were you the one with the laptop last year? You know, people should know better than to intentionally TRY to piss someone off like that. That poor kid that got his laptop snapped was a victim of some other shits trying to be funny.

                        That's too bad.

It was not I, but I felt the pain just the same.
