    what are gas prices like?
    and/or
anyone know of a web site that one can take a gander at to find out ? as the current prices are most likely to change from now until aug...

      gas prices

Last year prices were high all over, but Vegas was still a tad lower than Southern CA, surprisingly. Checking gas prices 2 months out is akin to guessing gold and silver prices... not easy! Maybe we can start you a fundraiser. :p

        Bikinigurl,

Depending on how far you will go for the best fuel prices......there are a couple of gas stations out past the Strato where you will see "non-tourist" pricing.
Usually around 10 cents cheaper then anything on, near or around the Strip

Also keep in mind that nowhere you'll want to go is very far. The furthest I go is Nellis AFB, which is not quite 20 miles from the Alexis, and is WWWAAAAAYYYY outside of your typical tourist destinations. I don't think I've ever gone through more than half a tank, and that's when I came early, stayed late, and did a lot of sightseeing.

Is there a sign up board to go to Nellis AFB with Octalpussy?

With all the heightened security on base, it's going to be a pain in the ass just to get me and my rental car through the gate, I'm sure (it varies from base to base). I'm just making my usual run for liquor and food, because getting stuff cheaper and then not paying tax on it (especially alcohol) kicks ass.

Just bring military ID, a driver's license, the rental car agreement and proof of insurance and you should be good to go. I'll chip in for gas!

If you have military ID, you can tag along, but I'm not going through the trouble of signing someone in. It's not a matter of what to bring, it's a matter of some bases being strict about vehicle passes. Most AFB's used to let you show your ID at the gate, and you'd get waved through without tags. Now, several of the bases here are making you get guest passes, and they're usually only issuing them for 24 hour periods. It's all up to the base, so I assume the worst and hope for the best. I don't want to spend half my day sitting around waiting at the visitor's center for some flunkie to leisurely flip through documents and issue passes. So.... with all the hassle I've gone through getting on base around here in the last few months, I'm not inviting any extra hassle.

I was at Fort Bragg NC in January, they searched my rental car every day, so I smartened up and got a pass. Of course military ID or dependent ID is a must!

That's exactly the kind of hassle I'm talking about! It seems that the army post here is much worse than the AFB's, but it all depends on the circumstances. My husband is a reservist, and has a company car that he can't get tags for (registration and insurance aren't in his name). Lackland won't give him a pass for the whole weekend.... he has to get a new pass each morning! It's almost not worth the trouble... oh wait... alcohol prices are DEFINITELY worth the trouble, LOL!!

As long as you have ID, you're welcome to ride out with me. I'll probably make a run when I get in Tues. night, but I'm sure I'll need to restock by Thurs. or Fri., hehehe. I just got a new radio, so assuming I figure out how to work it, you can reach me on that.
