TheCotMan, thanks for your explanation. I will wait for an indication here or elsewhere before proceeding.

Waiting is probably not your best course of action.

If I were you I would figure out first and foremost what you want this to be. If you want it to be a contest, you need to get in touch with Russ. He organizes the contest area and will assist you if he thinks this is a contest worth pursuing.

If you want this to be done in a speaker slot, then you will want to pursue this with DT and go through the CFP process.

I am pretty sure that for the most part this is a restating of what Cot has said (a couple of times) already.
      perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'

Even I, slow-witted creature that I am, understand that there was an UNFINISHED bit of business with DT, without which this cannot precede. Here, I will show you it:

I can't imagine that this would be too entertaining in the contest area, since there is so much already going on that is interesting and fun and distracting...

Just to throw it in (I can't seem to resist); I doubt strongly that your appeal is the same as Kaminsky's, who might be polarizing, but is still a strong speaker. In any case, I've seen blotto Dan before. Nothing new there. I'm thinking that a Hacker Jeopardy team would be appropriate, actually. The NYMPHS will kick your butt.

well, we do have some of the list flame warriors here, but I honestly prefer to have the intarwub when I'm debating, but I'm sure that there are still people that would find a live flamewar entertaining ;P

Is that a gauntlet I see in front of me? I'm game. I'm thinking more of a british parliamentary debate, but cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. In the immortal words of Johnny Storm: FLAME ON. We have two teams, and I'm dying to get a chunk of nymphs if they got the nuts to try, anyone else?

Ignore all the stuff in this post... I did not see that we were on page 3 of the thread. The idea of flaming galt inpublic blinded me to the fact that this is a complete idea already...

Ok being canuckistani and a parliamentary debater there's a few things needed to make this work.

One is what is (are) the topics to be debated.

Second is having the debate rules set in stone before hand.

Third is selecting the members, speaker, and man at arms.

Fourth is donning the flame retardant suits and going into the verbal jousting arena.

Also.... you don't need to abide by the stupid 2 party system..... many sides can be represented.

Here is a link to procedures under which I've debated in the past. Perhaps they can be used as some sort of basis under which the defgov can be founded?

Any comments about being a bluenoser will be ignored galt, save it for the floor where I can take you apart in public. : )

Sigh.... we had to bring politics into this didn't we......
