indeed. my latest shipment from them just arrived. i wouldn't have dreamed i could get another 17XX case for under $200. it's all set for the DC Shoot...

... in the lower portion of that image is the new M1A, which is coming to the DC Shoot for anyone to try. if you've never danced with a .308 round i highly recommend it... and the iron sights on this one are astonishingly accurate. if you don't mind a bit of shoulder punishment you can pull of surprising MOA.

i think this year how i'll handle things with my high-powered steel will be a dollar a round, which is almost close to what one pays for a lot of rifle ammo now. in truth, ten rounds would really cost more like $7 or $8 when you factor in shipping, etc... but i have to get all this out to Vegas from the east coast, heh. think that's fair? if so, i'll have pre-packed allotments of .223 and .308 for about a dozen or so folks. i'll also have a lot of .22, which still thankfully costs almost nothing, so we'll figure something out there like just buying me a beer later on.

i don't mind you bringing your own ammo if you're shooting my guns, but i'd prefer brass casings as opposed to steel.

as for what else is in that rifle case? well... it's covered by the gun sock because it's a secret for now. that firearm will be used for this year's marksmanship contest. you'll have to see what it is when we make it out to the Shoot site.

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Deviant - agree the .308 is a sweet round. i was on the base rifle team in 1969 - 1970. We had the full M-1 Garand with match barrels (embedded in fiberglass). That carbine looks great and wish I was going to be at the shoot to pop off a few rounds for old time sakes.

ooh, sounds lovely. now, during that period were they chambered in .308 as opposed to .30-06 ?

just for the record, this one's not a carbine... M1A == M-14 (well, without the select-fire). while .30 CAR may have the same diameter as .308, there's surely significant difference in terms of ballistics.

That 1490 case was perfect; thanks for the info Noid!!!! Fits in my regular checked suit case perfectly leaving room for clothes and stuff. The 1490 has plenty of room for my camera and gun. Have a Kryptonite cable to attach the case to the larger suit case. This means I have my cyber gear in my carry on and the rest in my checked luggage. This is great as I only have to carry 2 items.

              Re: Traveling with Firearms

I was flying from Reno through Miami into the Caribbean a few years ago via Delta.

I got to MIA with one of those $60 Daisy airrifles. When I went to check the hard case, the Delta rep told me that I couldn't fly outside of the country with an airgun. So, I appealed to his supervisor. This chick was obviously overworked and just as obviously didn't know her shit. She affirmed her rep's denial. So, I checked the rest of my luggage and got both of their names.

I grabbed one of the Miami metro cops stationed at the airport and asked him if he had kids. He gave me a weird look, and told me he did. I offered him my air rifle, but he wasn't having it. So, he called the chief of security over and then we all went over to the Delta counter.

Turns out Delta's folks in MIA didn't know shit and were just making stuff up as they went along.

It was actually easier to get my airgun into the Caribbean country than it was to get it OUT of the USA. And that just ain't right. When I left the country, I donated my inflatable raft, my fishing pole, my tacklebox, my bicycle, and my airgun and 500 pellets and a few hundred targets to the 11 year old boy next door.

Swear to God, his smile was so big and wide I thought his head would fall off.

So, I haven't flown Delta since. And I've flown to and from PHL with handguns, as I was going to New Jersey and I'd be damned if I'd go in unarmed. Perfectly polite folks. I left my ammo in a plastic bag, and when I got to Vegas I found that they'd packed my ammo in a box for me!!! Way to go, TSA!
