I went to change my PIN and know what? My card was DEAD for 24 hours until the update went though their server!!! I was livid, I mean sheesh! Yea I don't get the limit on password digits either. But why don't folks just cash a check at the front desk like normal people?

Personally I attempt to cover as much as my personal identity at the con, as possible. I don't need everyone knowing where i live or my bank account numbers :) Last time I heard the AP doesn't shred stuff it ought to. But i wouldn't know anything about that.

Unless they are out of paper ! Dunno why but i would't recommand the AP ATM machine during the defcon... Ok maybe i am been paranoid, But if the ATM would be out would not give you your receipt and not even warning you about it... you would be paranoid too...

Different ATM, but a couple times before I have inserted my card to a branch ATM they would turn into Sorry Not Available mode... and so I usually walk to the next one on the right or left, sometimes hearing a voice from inside saying, "Sorry, this one is closed too", and the card spits out and it changes to the Sorry Not Available mode... at least my card got spit out, another time I was passing an old man yelling at the ATM saying "Give me my card back, I know you are in there!"...

I've had my card eaten too. The one good thing about ATM cards is that if you get ripped off most banks will credit you all the money, but who really wants to get in that pickle in the first place.

Yes, one of my buddies in fact went to an ATM that has it inside the bank and had one hell of a time trying to get the card back the same day... eventually they opened up the machine and found the card laying in the reject bin. Who knows why. Damn computers.. ;)

Well from my limited perspective, this is how I look at it. If if need to access an ATM, I have no intention of using the semi-portable ATM plugged into the wall at an advertized hacker convention. Not to say that there IS a problem, but to say that it usually indicates a good time to take a break from the AP.

I hate using my parking space, and I hate walking to that atm by the overpass... :) but that is what I have to do.

Well I'll bring my plastic and a few hundred bucks, that ought to do it without needing an ATM card. What about hitting an ATM on your way to the hotel, it's a perfectly legitimate stop!

Yeah what ends up happening is that I have to hit the Wells Fargo corporate office a few blocks away via taxi... depends on how much swag I get.

I'll be totally schwagified from the con. Today I got all my trading stuff, hope to keep an ongoing collection for con events. The FIRST thing I buy is the new stuff that shows creativity and originality.
