Re: Forum Meet Avatar Badge Instructions
The more I think about this, the more I'm inclined to believe that the prize (alcohol) isn't a great idea. As Roamer has said recently and Nikita said in the past, hotels are not usually very cool with this and it would probably end up being more trouble than it's worth.
I'll be happy to throw in a DC101 T-shirt or something else as prize for the avatar badge contest. But directly mixing alcohol into the event, may turn out to be counter productive. The forum meet is historically one of those events where age doesn't matter as anyone can come and hangout. Inserting alcohol into the situation may send the wrong message to potential forum n00bs.
If the alcohol issue was/is pushed with the hotel or the event, I could see it having extreme negative consequences with even the general "BYOB Policy" being called into question, and I don't think that's a road any of us really want to do down...
Moving the topic along... Is it just one contest (with an overall winner) or are there multiple categories? Are there contest rules? Do they need to be under a certain size? Does someone need to have a forum account to win the prize or enter (I know people who aren't on the forums who have and "wear" avatar badges)? Who's judging and what are they looking for? Blah Blah Blah...And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.Comment

Re: Forum Meet Avatar Badge Instructions
First... The alcohol prize is history. I have learned there are many reasons for it not being appropriate and I apologize for bringing it up.
HighWhiz, Thanks for the kind offer for the shirt (You are a class Act!) I have switched the prize for the best Avatar badge to 25.00 Cash so the winner can purchase Alcohol, Soda, Defcon Swag or anything else they so desire.
Next.. Contest Rules and specifics, I will gladly take suggestions if anyone has any, if not I will come up with my thoughts, share them with some of the forum brain trust and then put them out officially.
I hope to post the time and location soon, I am waiting for a few email responses from some of the other Defcon event co-coordinators.
Can some of you more experienced Forum Meet attendees make a wild guess as to how many people are likely to attend?
ThanksComment

Contest will take place between X time and Y time. Three judges (You, Nikita and Roamer?).First... The alcohol prize is history. I have learned there are many reasons for it not being appropriate and I apologize for bringing it up.

Contest will be judged on creativity, originality, wear-ability and awesomeness. Or something like that..
It depends on the time of the event. You will have some attendees who stay the entire evening and you will have many who will just pop in stay for a bit and pop out.Can some of you more experienced Forum Meet attendees make a wild guess as to how many people are likely to attend?
So are you looking for total attendance or what? And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.Comment

Re: Forum Meet Avatar Badge Instructions
Let me preface this with the fact that I did not stay for the entire forum meet.
My guess would be that you could expect 100+ people this year. The fact that we're planning on pimping it at 101, that number may be significantly larger.
If you're looking for numbers in terms of.. stickers and such, you could probably do a run of 200 and be safe, as not everyone will use them (though stickers are "relatively" cheap, so you may be able to get more). And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. Re: Forum Meet Avatar Badge Instructions
Gaaaah! I suddenly wonder if my poor keg will be welcome anywhere! Or if I have a one-track mind...
Seriously, if bringing a keg to this is an issue due to all-ages, do please let me know. I had been under the presumption that it was my responsibility to ensure that only over-21 have access, but if you would prefer I did not bring it at all to the forum meet, then I need to know that. Alcohol is hardly necessary; it just is an excellent social lubricant.
Geez, next year I'm hiding all my booze. Give our DCG something creative to invent by then.....The f*ck? Have you ever BEEN to Defcon? - chsComment

Snideology,
It is really great that you were thinking about others with your keg!
However, Please bring your wit, humor and desire to meet and talk with everyone at the Forum Meet but leave the keg in your room.
ThanksComment

Re: Forum Meet Avatar Badge Instructions
I, too, am experimenting with an electronic avatar badge. I am a bit concerned with it getting through airport security, though. I'm definitely interested to see what all is created this year. Tremendous amount of creativity in the room last year. (read: illuminated cod piece)Comment

Re: Forum Meet Avatar Badge Instructions
So for those of you making laminated badges this year... a helpful hint :
When you are ready to stick your card into the laminator, make sure you put it inside their cardboard sleeve. If you don't, you will have to find another store with a WORKING laminator. And the Kinko's folks are not really thrilled with you either.
Not saying I actually did this today, but... yeah.........The f*ck? Have you ever BEEN to Defcon? - chsComment

-BBOX - dont sweat it - its going to be good, a lot will be going on that night, so people will come and go - pushing it at 101 will help..just enjoy and if you need help just holler.

Feel free to bring it over - I'm sure we can find a use for it, but please go to Target, get a large Round Plastic base (solid laundry bowl works best), fill with ICE and add some wheels from Home Depot. Makes it easier to move around and keep cold..
