Deviant, one of the first things noted on the shoot page is "To heck with paying entrace (sic) fees and dealing with staff at a local range..." yet now this shoot has fees, and much more than a range would charge for two hours. Maybe you can list a bit more where the money will go and how it helps the entire cause. 50 people with $40 each is $2,000. That's a lot of water and earplugs!!!

hah, fair point... i should fix that.

and i wasn't assuming that people were paying $40. that's the rare person who is getting their badge and booking a lane. i'm figuring that most people will share some lanes, as long as we don't have multiple simultaneous shooters at one time in a lane. (like at any range, you squeeze off one magazine, then step back to reload, etc etc)

indeed, this year the costs are going to the rental of huge sun canopies, tables, trash facilities, target backing hardware that i'll be setting up the day before, etc etc etc. i hope to make it work out to a really splendid event.

i'm also investing in proper RSO and Staff gear, like colored vests, bullhorns, and such. i really hope i'm not biting off more than i can chew.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

So I can buy a badge but not a lane, so can I buy a lane but not a badge? With only 35 lanes I see not everyone can buy them both.

I am debating bringing a couple guns for newbie shooters. Last year I let folks shoot too many different ones and I was cleaning them for hours. If I limit the number of loaners I can be fine with that and also let newbies do some plinking. I'll PM you offline about it.

        Thanks for doing this again!

          standby for design submissions...

Also, I don't print shirts in volume, so I'm not aware of pricing, which begs this question:

1 color for everything? or multi-color/open pallet? I imagine thats going to impact price..
looking forward to design submissions, I was beginning to fear that I would have to do the design myself, and I doubt people will be excited about a shirt with "defcon shoot 2011" scrawled in sharpie on the back...

As for artwork colors: If we keep the artwork to one color the shirts will cost less. The printer I'm using has the capability to do multi-color, but the price goes up as you add colors. Until I have a better idea how many shirts we'll be getting I can't say anything firm on the price. If you want to submit something multi-color I can bounce it off the printer and find out what it does to the price, and we can extrapolate from there.

yes, people can buy either or both, as long as they last. but there's essentially only two real options...

Option 1 - Person A both registers for the shoot and also reserves a lane. They show up, see which lanes are still available, choose one they like the look of, check-in to get their badge and lane pass, set up shop at their lane, and begin shooting. They may also look around for their friends who are also in attendance, who will share the lane with them, or look for people like Person B, mentioned below...

Option 2 - Person B registers for the shoot but does not opt to reserve a lane. Either they have other friends whom they personally know will be there (folk like Person A, above) and are planning to share a lane with them for the hour it is reserved... or they are planning on looking for generous folk who have lanes that will be open to others. Maybe Person B is bringing guns and ammo of their own and seeks to offer people like Person A some trigger time in exchange for use of the lane. I will stress that it's kind of bad form for someone like Person B to register, roll in with no firearms, and hope to shoot others' guns on others' lanes

Option 3 - Person C reserves a lane but does not register for the shoot. I don't consider this a really viable option, because unless Person C is volunteering as an RSO or Security Staffer, they will have no way to attend and make use of this lane that they're reserving. (And, of course, such people wouldn't need to reserve lanes, because there will be dedicated staff lanes available to them. They are, however, totally free to reserve a lane of their own for use by their own friends, etc)
