    Re: DefCon 19 Forum Meet

My props to BBox for taking the reins and keeping it going. Always nice to put names to faces and to meet some of the lurkers.

If possible can you post the art for the stickers? I think that next year they will be popular again :)

      Chris,

I was fortunate enough to get the best of both. I was working in the contest area Thursday night when you guys were practicing. You sounded awesome! So I was able to enjoy the meet without feeling like I was missing anything.

Maybe my question should be address to Bbox:

As the forum meet organizer, (now knowing what you know) when do you think would best day/time to have the forum meet at DefCon 20?

Well, if Little freak or Nikita does not take the Forum Meet back over I would definitely organize it again.

I think a later start would be better and considering how many of the active Forum Meet people are involved in something else that brings them in before Friday and how many Newbies showed up on Thursday to get registered and see DC101, I would really give a lot of thought to Thursday night. It would actually really work well with my desire to get the Newbies introduced and associated with others early in the Con, so they will know people they see the entire rest of the week/weekend.

I guess the biggest problem is I believe the Toxic BBQ is Thursday evening. I imagine many people may be going to the toxic BBQ. How late do people usually stay at the Toxic BBQ? You think people would come from the Toxic BBQ and still go to the Forum Meet?

Oh, having it be a long meet was good for me, I was one of the first ones there, then had to go do some work, then was able to come back at the end. Encouraging people to come and go is a great way to keep it informal, and keeps a turnover of people there to talk to (different people when I came back 45 minutes later)

Regognize plays on a stage with a curtain, right? What if the curtain were down during set-up and the Forum Meet were moved to the Contest room with said stage? That was, all participants in the Band would be still "there" and sticking heads out, saying hi, going backstage to tune up, etc. Even roadie type folk would be around and able to jump out for a bit perhaps... then, when the moment is right, lights dim, curtains go up, and fists pump.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Wow, realized I hadn't commented on the forum meet. ShortGrrl and I really enjoyed ourselves. I did end up making a DrunkGrrl sticker for her. Hoping to see you guys next year with more stickers and phun. Thanks Bbox for your efforts in making it happen.

                    Re: DefCon 19 Forum Meet

It was great meeting everyone. This was my first DefCon experience, so hopefully next year I can make it again and meet up with everyone. I actually preferred this event to some of the others, such as the HHV. For example, many people attending the other events are there for one purpose, and one purpose only, and that's to build whatever widget they're trying to do. They have little time to talk or chit chat... and honestly, who the fuck am I to bother them when they're trying to get something done.

The forum meet was a nice relaxed way to meet some others and mingle. Thank you BBox.

I was one of those that did not show up until after the Goon Band and was running late at that. I went to get some beers to pass out only to find the closest place was the gift shop. The stickers were a huge hit and I think I have a collection of about 2/3 rd's of them in my bag.

BBox - it was great meeting you and bravo zulu for a job well done.

Wow, looks like I'm slow out of the gate on commenting here. First off, sorry I could only attend for the 10-15 minutes I was there. And BBox, you put a lot of time and effort into the meet and it showed, well. From what I saw, you had everything the way it ought to be, the unforseen move was pretty messed up, but hats off to you for the way you handled the meet this year. It was good to put more faces to more handles, and I'll hopefully be able to be there longer next year.

Bbox really did put a lot of effort into things...oh what's this? A Button? THANK YOU!!!

I think that I'd like it if lil freak and Bbox organized the meet together, I will also be more than willing to assist in publication and acquiring approval for space and laying in front of the tank if anyone tries to move you again. Seriously.

Any who, you did a good a job and I hope the posts here let you know you were appreciated.

Is that "a tank" or "the tank"?

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. It was an enjoyable task to do and I got plenty of help and inspiration from people like High Wiz, TheCotMan and Nikita. F S did the hard work creating and assembling the buttons while I was being a major pain in his A$$ with my constant modifications to his artwork.

The real truth is that all the people that stopped by to say Hello, were the ones that made The Forum Meet what it was! so "Thank You All" for stopping in.

This was my third Defcon. Honestly it was really nice to meet people I interact in the forum. Before coming in the room, I was a little hesitant about it, since I'm not that big of a chatter and even English is not my first language, so I was thinking what the "hack" will I talk about. After I came inside, it was cool. The more I attend Defcon, the more I feel at home. I even remember what Mouse said in the video "Hackers are people too": "...this is my natural environment...". Even, you have this other guy "troll", n00bie at Defcon, who decided to join the Defcon Forums right there at the spot. For next year, I'd like to help in some way, even if that means bringing some bottles of Bahamian rum hidden in a bag, so attendees can drink and have more fun in the DF.
