it's nevada. you can do almost anything you want. just don't be stupid about anything and you'll be fine. you only have to worry if you're bringing nevada guns to ca. other than that, you'll be fine.

I'm pretty new to owning guns and all, and was wondering if I would be able to bring the guns that I own in California to Nevada. I figure that I probably could, but want to make sure. Also I frequently bring my girlfriends .357 magnum with me to the range and out shooting, but I'm only 18. And laws here in CA say that you must be 21 to purchase a handgun, but I can possess one if I have permission from the owner. Does it work that way in Nevada too? I just want to make sure that I don't get raped in the ass by the law if I go to the shoot and get "caught" with weapons.
You've pretty much got it. Nevada is what we call a 'Class 3' state. Basicaly just about anything is legal there provided you jump through the right hoops (CA is too, but thats another story) to have it. So basicaly, theres nothing you would have in CA that you cant have in NV. You can bring your CA guns into Nevada with no hassle. The only thing you may catch hell for is if you have any registered assault weapons. If you get pulled over entering CA from NV, you better have your reg. paperwork handy or you're going to county. Also, something to be careful of, if you have any pre-CA-ban high capacity magazines, you may want to leave them at home. If you get pulled over entering CA from NV and have a bunch of Hi-Caps, the cops could argue that you bought them in NV and are illegaly importing them into CA. Its fucking stupid, but then again, so are most gun laws.

        a fun story;
when i was younger my dad was showing me how to clean his hand guns. this was right after the introduction of the magazine round limit laws in ca. he pointed to his gun and told me that it was a hand gun. he then took out the guns 8 round clip and put in a 12 round magazine. he then pointed at the gun and asked me what it was. i replied "thats a hand gun". he corrected me and said, "now it's an assault weapon." this is the first time i bacame aware of the ridiculousness of CA gun laws....

Washington, D.C. has the toughest gun laws in the US, and we all know how safe people are there....

last year I didn't do the shoot - nobody around the con seemed to know what was going on so I just locked the guns in the safe at the luxor. They loved me :)

haven't bought my ticket yet. i'm torn between road tripping and flying. fast car is still new... tempting to go 140 on some of the flat straight dessert – prolly get caught and have my car full of guns towed.

If I fly I'll probably bring my AR and a Glock or two... I don't really want to bring more than one long gun.

If I drive... Boy Howdy! look out...

              Noid,

A couple of cohorts who normally pack something everywhere they fly inform me that its of their professional opinion that flying with firearms is easier than before

Since the new laws have been passed about flying with unlocked baggage, having that firearm packed along just about insures that no one is going to be stealing contents from your bags as the airlines don't want the sh*tstorm of bad press from losing a firearm in a secured enviroment.

Because of this information, I have been seriously thinking about picking up a Smith & Wesson 340PD with a Crimson Trace for business purposes. :)

                  Good Questions...

I too am a Reblic of Kalifonia citizen and I am thinking of my AR, HK and other Long rifles. Drive or Fly ???? Airlines and Firearms is almost as bad as California and firearms... tough at best!!!

flying is easy w/ a firearm. might be a little trickier since you are coming from the DPRK... ticket agents are a little skittish and can act stupid w/ out reason.

have a copy of the FAA regs and a copy of the airline's own policy when you check in.

but coming from California, why not drive anyway?

You can always overnight UPS the firearm right to you, send it back the same way.

if you drive, why would you ship the guns?

and, yes, its a 45 min flight but you have to be there 1 hour in advance, plus a 45 min flight, plus 30 min for luggage pick up, plus another 10-20 to get a cab or rent a car.

by then your looking at 2.5 hours minimum. when you can drive for 1/3 the price and get there only an hour later. and have a vehicle to drive around vegas in.

They are on the banned list for importing into California, don't want the hassle even though they are registered. Also, my car is a small compact... I am looking at a friend (good friend at that) to transport either my luggage to make room for my firearms... The friend i am thinking of is taking his truck... room in bed for "stuff" but no room for me :(

While I am in Vegas, I am thinking of renting a Viper for a day.... that will be fun :)

How many people from Southern California are going to the Shoot? If you are driving... how about a caravan of heavly armed hackers, crackers, and whatnots.... Call it operation "CON-Vegas"

                                Just a fun thought.
