I'm confused... are we talking about pi, as in tthe ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, or pie, as in the dessert (or perhaps even worse slang definitions...).

Pi doesn't bother me that much, when i want my brain to explode i try to visualize a hypercube. It's all downhill from there.

            The integral "z-squared dz"
from 1 to the square root of 3
            times the function cosine
            of three pi over 9
equals log of the cube root of 'e'

If it was written out like an equation I might actually have a shot at solving it....but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I'd suggest reading Stephen Wolfram's book, "A New Kind of Science." Wolfram is also the author/programmer behind Mathematica, which is about the coolest programming environment for scientific/mathematic programming.

It sums up about 15 years worth of research into fractals and chaos theory into something fairly accessible even if you have never worked with cellular automata and finite element analysis.

The gist (this is a very, very, very, very high level overview) is that complex behavior can arise from simple deterministic rules. If we can break down the behavior into these rules, then we would have a chance of understanding the process that gave rise to the observed behavior/pattern.

Limericks aren't written out. ;) Try google and type in pi limerick.
