2021 Defcon Tor Badge

We are attempting to pull off a Tor badge this year for Defcon 29. All profits will go to the Tor organization (just like 2 years ago).
Although they will not have a vendor booth this year, so I'm still working on some logistics.
I should have the badges by mid July and assuming they work I'll be able to provide more details then.

I received the working boards so it looks like this is happening, here are the details:

What it does - It acts as a mini lie detector. The badge has two primary sensors, a GSR sensor and a heart rate sensor. These are two of the sensors used in a polygraph machine. The output of these sensors with some statistics is graphed to each of the two 1.3" OLED screens.
Use it to interrogate your friends, or to practice how to get through your next fed-job interview

Hardware - It is run off a cortex M0+ arduino based xiao, that you can connect to via USB-C. The stock firmware also outputs the raw data over serial USB to allow further analysis of the data on a computer. There is one 1.69bis SAO header, finger cuffs used for the GSR sensor, and is run off two AA batts with a boost vreg to 3.3v.
There are 0.1" headers for every pin on the xiao. There is also 3.3v/gnd and other 0.1" holes available for prototyping.

Where to buy - Because Tor does not have a vendor booth this year, I've teamed up with hacker warehouse who has agreed to help sell them at their vendor booth.
Their booth will be in the vendor area of the conference, which I believe is open Thursday - Sunday (check the defcon schedule for details). Hacker warehouse will have to charge tax as they are not a non-profit.

Price - $120 including tax which includes the badge, custom lanyard, finger cuff cable, two sets of batts, stickers, and probably some googly eyes

All profits from the sale of this badge go directly to the Tor project, just like 2 years ago. I am not funded by anyone, I front all costs of development myself. I do not charge for my time or effort, I only hope to recoup any material costs.

Source code and instructions on how to reflash the badge (via an arduino IDE) will be available prior to defcon on github. Source is licensed under the permissive WTFPL

There will be at least one challenge (that @gigstaggart dreamed up) with a prize going to the winner

I will post a video of the badge in action and all the features it has, if I ever get out of soldering-hell over here. I expect to have that available a few days before defcon starts so everyone can determine if it is worth it to them.

What do they do?

Basically a lie detector. This badge has two primary sensors, a reflection-based pulse sensor, and a galvanic skin response (GSR) sensor. These sensors are traditionally used in a polygraph machine, and GSR is also used in the E-meter.
It has two 1.3" oled screens for sensor output and analysis. It runs on a xiao that has a USB-C connector and is easy to reprogram with arduino

You can practice your interrogation skills on a friend, or practice beating a polygraph for your next fed job.

Will people attending virtually be able to get this badge or do you just plan on selling in-person?

I plan on selling all that I can in-person. If I'm left with anything after defcon I'll first offer the badges for Tor to sell through their site (though they didn't have much interest previously).
I'd rather not sell them myself, I'm not setup for the logistics of shipping stuff out (I'd be standing in line at the post office and I'd be paying retail shipping rates). Plus I don't really want to collect anyone's addresses.
Basically your best option is to try to find someone at defcon that can buy one for you. Another possibility is I could re-make these badges next year if Tor has a proper vendor booth in 2022, but I'm not sure how many people will be interested in "last year's" badge in 2022.
If you've been running a Tor exit node for 6+ months or something maybe I'll make an exception.

If you don't have a vendor booth/table, do you know when and where these will be sold? Also, any approximate price?

I'm hoping to work with a friendly vendor to help me sell these at their booth, but that is not confirmed yet. Once I have the badges in hand and I know they work I'll finish ordering other necessary components like lanyards, batteries, boxes, etc.
I don't have a price yet because I don't know my final costs on everything. And selling at a friendly vendor booth requires them to collect tax since Tor doesn't have a non-profit booth this year.
I expect it to be sub $150 for everything... dual soldermask badges, lanyards, two sets of batts, stickers, fingercuffs (for the GSR sensor), box, etc. That's more than I wanted it to be, but having a xiao that is arduino-reprogrammable via usb-c, 1.3" dual OLEDs instead of the typical 0.96", and finger cuffs are not cheap. And there has to be a profit in there for Tor, otherwise it's not a very effective fundraiser.
I pretty happy with the prototype, I'll have a full video walk-through beforehand so everyone can decide if they think it is worth it to them.
I will update this thread and post on twitter when I have more concrete plans.

There is no pre-order, they will be for sale at the "hacker warehouse" vendor area during whatever the vendor hours will be. They take cash and credit card.
