Highwiz and Stitch went several nights... it was a gay bar each night. I went over with them for a bit on Friday or Saturday (things get a little hazy in that point of my memory), and it was definitely a gay bar then.

Yes, it is not just a gay bar, but a gay restraunt with good food. It's definitely not just a "one night" thing, no matter who tells you.

if i go, i will only be sharing the trip with one person. Also, i wanted to know what to bring.....i assume some people just go nutz and bring everything they own that has a blinking light. But what things are fairly necessary. Also, i wanted to know how the week goes... like what happens when.. i think that may be on the calendar, but i wanted that on a point of view from someone whos' been there before .
what things are interesting and what things kind of die out?

Search through the past Defcon archives. Theres a few threads on what to bring. Lots of people go nuts. Personaly, I dont even bring a laptop anymore. Most people will be fine with a laptop, some sort of radio (the hotel covers a fair ammount of space, having a way to keep in contact with friends is a must), and the basics (sunscreen, hat, etc).

As far as how things go the con starts Friday morning and ends Sunday afternoon. Noteable events are the DC Shoot Saturday morning, the Black and White Ball Saturday night, and the WiFi Shootout Saturday (if they do it again).

Most people will be fine with a laptop, some sort of radio (the hotel covers a fair ammount of space, having a way to keep in contact with friends is a must), and the basics (sunscreen, hat, etc).

One other thing: bring enough clothes for double the amount of days you're staying. Las Vegas gets hot during the day in August, and if you spend any considerable amount of time out in the sun you and your clothes will be a sweaty, stinky mess by nightfall. Take a shower once it's dark and change your clothes. Please.

If you bring a laptop, be wary of the network, *sniffing in progess*. You don't want to end up on the wall of sheep.

im not going to be the idiot that claims to be an uber 1337 h4x0r, but im no idiot. So ii doubt the network will be a problems. I can at least hold my own with 50% of the people there. But then again, i may be proven wrong. I dont wanna be on the wall of sheep. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Thanks for the info by the way guys. I am hoping to learn a lot at defcon. Sure ive read a ton of articles (not tuts, but actual articles) on computer security and the like, but i dont think that anything compares to actually being there watching a demonstration. Hope to see some of you there. Ill be like the guy in the defcon 11 pics that is in the corner, while everyone is "groovin it out" at the black and white ball, looking at pr0n on his laptop. LOL
