TwinVega and Ck3K: You have to let him come, for one of two reasons. 1) He could be a good lackey for either of you, and as has been proven in the past, lackey's are necessary for overall survival. 2) At least he's someone to throw in the pool..

Kreptic: If they are cool they will ask you to remove your tech. I suggest you do it.

      What not to miss

noid has already posted some of the things about DefCon that you shouldn't miss. In addition, I would like to say:
      Do NOT miss Hacker Jeopardy!!

Count on not getting a lot of sleep thru the con. You will probably be listening to guest speakers thru the day and learning a lot. Then, there are countless parties through the AP and elsewhere where you can meet a lot of really cool and interesting people. You may get to sleep roughly 4AM to 8AM (if you sleep at all!)

My understanding is that the hotels will come in and 'clean' your room even if the DND sign is on the door in an effort to find your suicided corpse before it rots through the floor beneath it.

Could just be an urban legend, though.

Although this will be my first year, and I cannot answer firsthand... Chris has attended many years and this was earlier in the thread, first page:

But jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick will you please learn that this phrase means DON'T COME IN MY ROOM.

I left my DND sign up the entire time last year and I walked into my room several times while the lady was cleaning and took stuff out without her seeing me...what if it wasn't MY room...

          Very frustrating.
From reading that, I'd call it more than urban legend.

In response to my previous posts about MaryBurger and Prices for Defcon.

The night we went to Mary Burger the place was empty, there was 2 family's eating. The bar was empty, and the group of us that ate there were none the wiser to the fact it was a gay bar.. this was at 6pm though.. Maybe it wasnt jumping yet.. I'll say again though, the food was good.

As for the prices, I made a mistake, I posted 129 for Alexis, its more. I forgot to add in the deposit we posted for the rooms when we reserved them early.

            After I add $10 a night Room Tax's and Deposit, Plus 119 a night
it was like 218 a night or something like that.

Im surprised no one freaked out when I posted that price.

              make money on the trip

Walking down the Vegas strip, there are people who hand out cards for women. At first, I thought they were collector cards, but they are not. I talked to a guy handing them out, and he was getting paid $300 a night. I'm pretty sure that was it. So, if you have some spare time, get a job handing out cards. If you stay awake all weekend you could hand out cards at night and do the con during the day. It is harder to sleep through lectures now that they make you leave the room after each talk, which they started last year. Maybe you could catch a nap in the hall while waiting to get into a lecture. Last year, I learned more from talking to folks in the hall than I did in the lectures.
