The new owner of the non-gaming Alexis Park Hotel has acquired 4.7 acres adjacent to the property and is on track to develop a 28-story hotel with 1,000 rooms and a 70,000-square-foot casino.

Y'know what this means, we can now hold the Defcon Fast Roping contest now that there is 28 stories of hotel to play with, where is Dr. Van Harl when you need him?

not ture... as I stated earlier I was there on Tuesday and neither the pool NOR the hottub are "filled in".. the grounds in that area are torn all to hell, but the pool and hottub are both in tact.

and as far as "My Place" goes.. I thought we did have a Con there? it is held almost every weekend between DefCon.....
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

I won't stay at the AP regardless of where the con is. After the way the <expletive deleted> desk clerk treated us when we checked out I am looking forward to spending my money elsewhere. I hope DT does find a new location for con. Let's smile and wave at the AP as we drive our geek bux past their establishment and drop not one single dime on their little renovation fest.

$250 for Absolut? People drink that shit? I doubt I'd pay that much for a bottle of vodka if they had it personally delivered to my room by naked Russian sailors.

I wouldn't doubt if the previous owners talked about how much they made as a *non* gambling hotel; forgetting to mention entirely that Defcon made their bank for them for the last 6 years...

I won't pay their ridiculous rates, I won't buy their overpriced booze and lousy food but I still want to go to Con.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It's not that terrible o_0;; i mean we were the only ones there. It was pretty inexpensive and like minutes away from the strip. (taking a cab... gawd walking it was hell during the day.)

I'm technically and probably officially "old". That means I expect value for my Las Vegas dollar. They didn't provide that value and, as far as I'm concerned, when I'm paying double what anyone else would charge me for a Sunday night stay in Vegas you should not only be polite, you should exert yourself on my behalf for I am TheCustomer(tm). They were not only rude to me but rude to other people before and after me checking out. I'm not rewarding that behavior with more of my geekbux. Newp newp newp.

Yeah, it sucked they had to disrupt Poolcon. It turns out people were drunk...in Las Vegas...duh. When they were replying to Astcell's and others logical questions I felt like saying: "Yes, your Assholiness". But that wouldn't have helped anything either.

I have more good memories than bad of the AP, but a change of venue will bother me very little.

Well, I will miss the Multistore.

New Hotel OK with me! (Let's go back to one big meeting room too)

For what it costs, Alexis Park (even the unimproved one) was not a great location. The parking sucked. The security sucked. The rooms were tattered. The layout created a lot of congestion. IT WAS NOT CHEAP. During that time of the year you can get sub $50 rooms at nicer locations.

Since it's getting harder to find a non-gaming location, I'd suggest we take over one of the gaming resorts. The Golden Nugget has ample parking and meeting places. I think Main Street Station would work. Maybe the Topicana?

ONE THING I MISS is back in the day when there was only one track and we all sat in one big honking room (like DC5 at the old Alladin) That had a whole better community feel to it and you never felt like you were missing anything. I'd go for fewer (but better quality talks) if we could all be in one big ol' monster room.

Exactly. In the days before Defcon, we had a jacuzzi suite at the Luxor... $109 a night and it didn't come with complimentary fleas.

The AP has pretty well shit in its nest with me over the poolcon incident this year. The guy at the desk was a douche, the rent-a-tards there were assholes, and I personally would have kicked the chief of security in the balls if I was better armed than he was. Fuck them.. I doubt I stay there next con.. St. Tropez is a hell of a lot nicer, and closer to the lobby than some of the AP rooms.

Im waiting to see what the room rates rocket to.. assuming the con is held there, Ive stayed elsewhere before, I mainly pay thier exorbanant price for convenience.
