    Rooms at other hotels

    Alright...I admit it, I'm cheap!

I plan on going, but staying at another hotel other then the AP. What kind of traveling options do I have there to go from one hotel to the other???

Or should I just plan on renting a car?
    What are my options?

    Thanks

    1. Cab
    2. Walking
    3. Monorail + Walking from the nearest stop at the MGM Grand (not recommended)
    4. Metro Bus system? I have seen the bus stops but I can't ever remember seeing a bus in all my time in Vegas.

The consensus is either stay at the con hotel or within .25 miles of it.

my first year we stayed at the super 8 less than a mile down the road. we anticipated walking to the ap every morning... and everymorning we decided that the black pleather in the car, the futile a/c system, and the battle for a parking spot was far better than walking

A few years ago, after a day at DEFCON, I returned to my rental car and once inside my finger hit the metal ring around the ignition switch . It was so hot it actually raised a blister on my finger.

You guys are worse than the band camp stories. If you do not stay at the AP you lose out on some of the Defcon experience.

i only didnt venture into that aspect of the hotel stay because they were incapable of affording it.
of course everyone should stay at the AP.... but if cost becomes a factor, then my only suggestion was to not anticipate walking from another location more than a quarter mile.

Don't let them scare you. I run to the strip and back every morning and evening. I do sweat, but I dress accordingly.

Of course, I come from Phoenix where the conditions are quite similar...

Ameri-Suites if you don't mind sleeping next to feds... so I guess I'll share my con story...

at DefCon 7 I stayed at the Ameri-Suites and walked to and from the AP every time I needed to change clothes, grab gear, etc.. it sucked so bad I just moved to Vegas for DefCon 8
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

I walked from Terribles last year and it was fine. Yes it was hot, just soak your shirt and you'll be fine.

San Tropez wasn't bad...you get to see all those porn postcards put up in the fence between the hotels...

When checking in, ask for a room near the casino, give them any excuse, I stayed at Terribles for Blackhat and Defcon one year. I had a nice big room with a really small bathroom (They all are) but it was all the way in the back.

Chalk Terribles up for where to stay when everything else is booked, watching people with less teeth in their mouth, than fingers on their left hand wasting their paycheck on video slots for gas discounts isn't something I'd recommend to anyone looking for a first time Vegas experience.

And Terrible's is pretty darned exotic compared to High Hat!
