  • At CON sub-challenge: sign up now!

Teams: You may have as many people on your team as you like. You *must* make your intent to enter via email (and you may post here as well, we prefer both)-

Send email to LNDC14sub[at]LostboY.net with a list of your team members, a team name, and your official intent to enter.

So what is this thing anyway then? I'll tell you. Just not right now. Actually not until the day the sub-challenge starts, which will be the first day of CON.

Hints? Yes. They will be here, given on Neural's site, and various other ways.

How to make a successful team? The following 'skills' should be represented as best as possible on your team:

*someone who can read a datasheet/schematic
*someone who understands the *basic* principles of a breadboard
    *someone with lockpicking/opening/literal hacking skills
    *puzzle/problem solver
    *BASIC knowledge of coding
*RS232- have you used hyperterm? Ok, you qualify. TCP/IP- If you know what an RJ45 is you qualify.
*And of course: embedded devices? Know what they are? Wonderful. By nary the way you are almost finished.

Please only those serious about entering- however I would encourage people to get teams together for this- it will be designed to NOT TAKE ALL OF YOUR TIME AT CON. It will be POSSIBLE. It will be more than possible for people even with BASIC SKILLS, however it may take longer than those teams with experience in the areas mentioned above. Hints have already been given here.

Come on, this mini-at con challenge will rock.

What if people want to buy the "project/kit/puzzle" and take them home after the con is over and you found a winner?

Thanks in Advance. I like puzzles.

That depends on how much interest there seems to be, more on this as we approach CON.

will their be a thread on who wants to join a team?
i do have a few of the neceary skills but dont have the basic codeing skills, or even know what rs232 stands for, but i can pick some locks i know bread boards and can read some schematics, so im really thinking about signing up.

my interest is definitely engaged... altho i do not know how much i could offer to a team. i'm more of a physical skills guy. i mean, i have done some RS232 work in the past (really basic-ass terminal sessions) and can crimp RJ45s in a wide variety of pinouts... but i haven't wired a breadboard since i was an EE major many years ago. (a program which i dropped after one year, heh)

my supposition is that it might be a contest where you are given a locked box full of the components with which to make a spiffy little embeded system... then again i could be way off, i'm just guessing wildly based on the skills description.

my time at con tends to be really hectic, but i enjoy participating in as many games and fun activities as possible. if people want to have me on their team, i'd be happy to tag along.

It is really up to you guys to look for teams/put teams together. Feel free to start a thread looking for a team-

Again, this will be structured to NOT take all of your time at CON. It will be very do-able....

            More to follow...

              I'm very curious now.

As long as you say it's doable with the above mentioned skills, I'll throw my hat/picks/beer into the ring.

Will the creating be something useful after con or is it very Rube Goldberg?

our heads are always clear... as clearer heads tend to prevail in difficult situations.

Lost has discussed this with me and from the way he described his idea it sounds like a rather fun project. As far as the usefulness of the net appliance after the convention, that is still up in the air. Of course the more complex the item the more useful it could be after the con. I think the goal this year is to fine tune a balance so the sub challenge isn't as hard, can be done while on site at the con, and doesn't take the entire con to assemble.

As Lost said, more hints and clues will be dropped the closer we get to Con.

And don't forget, we are still having a 'main' challenge, net enabled devices...builds that you bring to CON (translation: start building things now!)

We've added C0nverge and mfreeck to the team (you did'nt specify a max team size)

                            That is correct- no problem.

Hey Converge, are you sad that we will be further away from Noodle Soup now?

ohh.. right, new digs.. further to the pho .. hmm. I'm sure a trip out is still a requisite. Remind me if I forget later, we're dragging CotMan out thar with us.. I owe him a non-meated pho experience.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.
