Are you seeing this behavior? How often? Does it look like what is described?

    Thanks for the reports.
I have had no issues within the last few days either at home or work.

Thanks. This has been my experience too. I'm hoping other people have seen this, because I really don't want to call this guy crazy.

I'm pretty sure he would beat me up with his mind.

The problem I have been experiencing has been odd timeout issues. I've been getting it from work and home and on mulitple computers. Basically, sometimes I hit the forums and my connection times out. I give it a bit and the forums come back up. I just assumed it was you or DT messing with something on the network.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

Well i finally saw a connection failure. It appears that the forums were unreachable starting at 7:07pm pacific time today, and this lasted for about 1 hour.

it appears that requests for content stopped getting passed to the forum server.

pics and www and testforums remained available.

https access to the www was interrupted, but http access to www wroked.

After DT visited the FW/Router it appears access to all of the above has been restored.

Let's see if the timeout problems come back again.

Please, if anyone else sees these problems, could you please let us know when you see it, and post the time+timezone so we can try to find a cause?

          Thanks!

We had to switch network providers, and we are trying to see if these are software issues on our end, or new network issues from Comcast, like the failure of their router on Tuesday. Any observations help.

Looks like this router is bad too. This means no http to any of our sites, only https. What are the odds?

Spent two hours on tech support as they found problem after problem with the device, and they relayed the horror story of sometimes batches of 50 routers at a time being bad. Yow!

New router arrives Sat morning, let's see what happens.

There has been no new activity in the [forum=432]Decon 17 Pre-planning[/forum] forum for over 3 weeks, and it has been closed.

The Defcon 17 contests/events has probably until late October, or early November before they are all closed. Their closure will likely coincide with the opening of the DC18 contests/events forum. Once DT provides an announcement for DC18 somewhere on the forums or the main site, that will likely be the control that directs the closing of old forums for DC17 and opening of new forums for DC18.

Post DC17 will probaby be open while Pre-DC18 is open, but only for a short time.

Please let us know if you have questions about this process.

Main www site, forums, pics and testforums were unavailable for a short time today.

It was reported by Deviant Ollam at 12:22 pacific time, and verified by several people. This was reported to DT, and service returned a few minutes later.

Please report other problems. if the forums are down, you can email a report to us as defconforums@gmail.com

                  Thanks!

Today from some time around 10:15am pacific time until some time before 11:00am pacific time, pics and forums were unreachable. I was able to get a shell, and I could connect to each web server internally, but external access from the public Internet was unavailable.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I've seen this. I made no change to the server or service to cause this or fix this. Eventually, access was restored without any intervention from me.

I'm guessing there is a trigger in the firewall that is being tickled, or there is something wrong with filtering by the ISP or equipment from the ISP, perhaps if the network load gets to high, or ? I see nothing from the server to point to a problem. The evidence I see is a down-turn in the number of incoming connections, and periods of no activity from web users on the public Internet.

[forum=432]Defcon 17 Planning[/forum] forum (which has been closed to new posting for a month) has been moved int o the newly created [forum=484]Defcon 17 Forum Archive[/forum].

The other Post-Defcon 17 forums, and to Defcon 17 contests/event forums are still active enough to not be closed for new posts and remain open. When they are closed, they will eventually be moved into the [forum=484]Defcon 17 Forum Archive[/forum] too.

The main site has the announcement for Defcon 18 up:

Dates are published. This means we will be rolling out the Pre-Defcon 18 Planning forum, and the Contest/Events parent forum.

Please let me know if there are threads in the Post Defcon 17 forum that should be moved to the Pre Defcon 18 discussion forum. I'll look for threads and copy or move them as I find them, too.

The Post Defcon 17 forum is still somewhat active. The last post there was about 7 days ago. Once we go about 2-3 weeks without a new post in Post-Defcon 17, We'll close it and archive it.

                            Thanks!

                                Forum SSL tweaks:

After playing around with Ivan's great SSL Tools site I decided to disable SSL v.3 support, leaving only TLS support, as well as now requiring DH key exchanges and a minimum key length of 168 bits.

If you are reading this it must still be working for you!
