    Maintenance competed. Now checking work.
Will re-enable forum access after checks show maintenance cycle was completed without error.

Please report problems you find with forums here:

Transient problem? Does it work for you now?
I said in the original that this was not a consistent problem. Twitter will occasionally reject (other than for logging in) connection attempts to https rather than http. Twitter is one of the least stable code bases out there, so this should surprise no one. Last time I paid attention, the https was just a handoff to http in any case. It's not like they actually care about SSL or your security.

Ahh, I didn't interpret the original post on this as a report of a transient problem. It will still be for Neil or DT to decide which is preferred: reliable service from a link to a 3rd party or the possibility of ssl support when visiting a link to a 3rd party.

The mail server that the forums sends forum activation requests, password resets, and more is not accepting mail from the forums. Until it is fixed, email defconforums@gmail.com and let us know, and we can ask you 2 questions before activating your account or resetting your password.

Mail appears to be working again. Try the automated methods for password recovery, email validation requests, and other account maintenance by email.

If you never received you email validation for your forum account, a url to click on is described in "Lost password? Account Deletion? Can't post anymore?" as one of the "problem/solution" lines of text.

ical export of forum events, history, and conventions was broken. This probably happened about 8 months ago when I performed a clean install during an upgrade cycle, but was never checked or reported. Found this on my own.It is fixed now. ical export of history, conventions and events should be working again.

The "Defcon Planning" forum for Defcon 17 is now closed and archived.

All Defcon 17 contests and events have not had a new post or reply in 1 month, so they have all been closed and archived.

Defcon 18 contests/event and Defcon 18 Planning are still open and available.

Lost@Con Mystery Challenge forum has been added to the list of Defcon 18 Contests And Events.

Joe Grand's [forum=496]Badge Hacking[/forum] will return for Defcon 18. I've received confirmation of his intent to bring it back, and I've rolled out the forum for it for Defcon 18.

I've sent email to a few more people that ran contest/event from last year asking for updates on intent, and let them know they will still need to contact the other people involved with Defcon for access to resources such as space, like Russ and company for contest floor space, and speaker track people for contests like Hacker Jeopardy, etc.

I'll try to send out email to more contacts from last year to find out their intentions on their running contests/events for Defcon 18. These requests are only for determining what changes should be made to the forums, and in doing so, also relay information to Neil for changes and updates to the Main Web Site pages on www.defcon.org for Defcon 18.

If all goes well, over the next week, I hope to send out email to all remaining contacts for contests/event not listed in DC18, but listed in the DC17 contest/event forum.

I just received more replies from contacts running contests/events for Defcon 18:

[forum=498]10,000 cent Pyramid[/forum] is coming back to DC 18. The forum is activated and available for posting.

[forum=497]CanonBall Run[/forum] is coming back to DC18. This forum is also active and available for posting.

More updates as I get them and activate forums. :-)
