the original Shoot took place on saturday morning, when we ran the reinstated DC Shoot last year, it was set as Thursday morning (before the BBQ, with enough time for people to even see Hoover Dam if they wished)

some folk expressed displeasure over that day choice. i'd be willing to hear what others thought about it this time around. but personally, i am way too busy as it is at DEFCON once the con itself is underway and would surely prefer it to be still on Thursday again.

i'll be bringing the new long-barrel AR if anyone would like to try it, just need to pay for your own ammo... (maybe i'll ask shooters for donations towards my alcohol stock or something, given that i'm going to have to pick up an additional Pelican 1700 case.

i'll also be running the 22caliber marksmanship contest again, but not with the accurized Ruger. a different item will be used, and it will be (hopefully) very fun.

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Personally, I tent to arrive Thursday in the late morning hours, and have yet to attend a shoot, which I'd love to this year. That being said, I have to agree that Thursday is probably a better day, as all of us in one way or another, have something going on at any given time of day/night during con. I for one would be willing to at least attempt to flex my usual travel/lodging arrangements to be able to make it Thursday.

          count on it.

i'll get into it soon with the fellow at Desert Lake to see if we can get a better deal and have it guaranteed solid well before the event. i felt bad last time when the extra $20 situation was happening to some shooters.

I plan on attending this years Defcon and would love to check this out. Problem is I'm a complete noob and have no experience shooting before and plan on renting something. Is this an ok event for a newbie or is it more geared towards the enthusiasts?

Also, are there places nearby to buy ammo? I'm sure I can buy my 30/30 ammo anywhere, but I'm looking for 7.62x39mm. otherwise, i might have to order it off the web to e delivered to the hotel I don't have a problem with anyone shooting my guns, I usually encourage it. I wouldn't even mind holding a longer range target competition for larger caliber scoped rifles. If anyone else is bringing a rifle that fires 30/30 or 7.62x39mm or even thinks my guns look fun to shoot and want to throw in on some ammo, let me know. if i have to order it to the hotel for that day, i'll probably either buy 500 or 1000 rounds. let the fun begin :D

Is there a sign-up for Class III this year?

I also need to get a ride from someone.

                            Thanks.

[NOTE - THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE... NO CLASS-III THIS YEAR AS WE ARE AT A NEW LOCATION FOR 2009 THAT DOES NOT ALLOW FULL-AUTO]

there will be a Class-III package again this year. i'm hoping to make it less than the $200 for three guns cost of last year. i'm sure that as things get closer we'll sort out more ride options, etc. i'll put you in my master database as "ride needed"

I’m thinking about going to the shoot this year. I read on page 2 were it was suggested to keep it in the gun in the hotel room. I will be staying at the Riviera, and am curious if there is special procedures to be able to keep the gun in your room? Such as if it’s ok carrying it through the hotel to your room for storage(inside of the tsa case of course), or if you need to tell the hotel that you will be carrying a firearm to your room? Any suggestions or comments from anyone who has done this at the Riviera in the past would be much appreciated.
