1) Have you ever been to Defcon before?

Once or twice. ;-}

I've actually been in attendance since DC4. Every year, I swear I won't be back, and then I show up. Still, this year might really be the last.

2) What are your expectations when attending Defcon this year?

I expect to have enough caffeine to make me happy, at least on Coffee Wars morning.

I expect to be verbally and physically abusive (which should surprise no one).

I expect to listen to a few talks, and see people that I only see once a year.

I expect to drop in on Hacker Jeopardy, and watch people who should know better make absolute fools of themselves.

The best thing to expect, however, is that I will see or hear or learn something new that I haven't seen or heard or known before. Life continues to surprise and amaze.

1) Does this include astral projection? If so, 6, 8-16. if not, I missed a year. I wasn't feeling well that year. :-)

2) What do you expect this year?

I expect to annoy HighWiz to no end. And then buy him a drink, or four...
I expect to buy Chris a beer.
I expect to help Noid become a "fat southern sheriff"
I expect to see lots of newbies at the Newbie Speed Talk. And if I don't, well, if there is just one? It's all worth it to me.
I expect to be cleaning up and assisting random drunken people at the HP party (THE BEST PARTY ON THE PLANET, YO!) BTW, don't throw up on my shoes...I will hurt you.
I expect to have the random brainiac sessions that seem to have been the highlights of my past defcons.
I expect several inquisitive persons on my mayhem run. May none be lost this year.
I expect a return of the awesome grlllls of defcon dressy up dinner like thingy that was so awesome and I hope to be invited again.
I expect to see several acquaintances in the hallway sporting a "bad head" from the "l33t" parties they attended the night before.
I expect that many people I know by physicality and persona will not know who in the heck I am; this is a good thing.
I expect the ones.
I expect to be astonished, suprised, amazed, and downright confuzzled. And learn so much.
I expect to laugh; repeatedly.
Oh, and I fully expect random Enigma coin throw downs for drinks. Don't drain my bank account y'all.
I expect I owe the network guys beers, talk and a gander at the E's
I expect to spike Shrdlu's coffee with Defcon happy dust to pacify his insane desire for caffeine and irrascability. (this is not a drug of any kind. Unless attitude is a drug).

I have lots of expectations, don't I? Better me than you. Strangely, all of my expectations will be met. I am just waiting... :-)

Couple of things.

Happy dust not a good idea. Do not mess with Shrdlu's coffee.
Shrdlu == female.

I should point out that desire for caffeine cannot be insane, and that the irascibility is one of my more pleasant features. It isn't just the caffeine, by the way. I *like* coffee. Coffee is one of the five major food groups (alcohol, of course, being another).

2. My expectations include, but are not limited to:
missing most of the talks that I want to see
the DC noob track being pretty awesome
sleeping less than 4 hours per 24
seeing a bunch of friends whom I only see once a year
being recognized more as 'the guy with the keg on his back' than 'Salem'
dying in the bus
seeing a few old co-workers
spending too much money
drinking with said friends I rarely get to see
buying Chris a beer
losing at the lock picking comp
having entirely too much fun competing in the scav again
enjoying every second of the convention, and missing it as soon as its over.

[1] Yes, I was at Defcon last year.

[2] I expect to be more social than I was last year. I expect to stay at the Riv instead of a hotel offsite. I expect to bring a small group of Anonymous from Orlando and show them the glory of Defcon. I expect probably more from the newbie track than its going to be (like a magic pill to fix my awkward socialness). I expect to go to the Toxic BBQ. I expect to bring business cards with me this time. I expect greatness :)

[1] Last year was my first time at defcon, something I had wanted to do for a long time.


[2] My expectation this year are huge! this year i'll be attending with my dad, he is more "in the area" catching up with me, than attending solely for defcon, im positive many things will interest him(he may intrest many people also!), I'm expecting more social interaction this year.
Attending more talks is high on my agenda, as are the Lockpick village and Hardware Hacking village, getting involved in both of these areas and hopefully improving my dismal lockpicking skills.
The hardware hacking village will interest my dad so, if like last year they have the kits i'll be getting one of them again and seeing what we can do with that and/or the badge.

Beer is a great expectation of mine, lots of it, sharing beers with other people and hopefully ideas aswell, at the parties, between talks, in the elevators!


my expectations are that you truly do get back what you put in at events like this.
everyone adds a little to the mix(some more than others obviously) I plan to add a little to the mix(more than I did last year) and in return get that little bit more in return.

I got a whole week in vegas this time, getting over the jetlag earlier before defcon, will help aswell.

I had been at Defcon since...WOW 99 maybe

I expect to lurk around, have fun, and maybe learn one or two things. I expect to make at least one friend, and have some enlightening debate about the new cyber-threats our country is going to face this year. no names, no attachments.

i expect people to buy me beer.

Chris, if you can identifying me among the crowd, you got yourself a 24 pack of free beer! :)

1) I went to 15.

2) In no particular order of importance:

• I will likely lurk.
• I will bring my wife again, so she can terrorize Lockpick Village
• I will hit a talk in every slot again. I really do come to get educated.
• I will get up at 9:50, put two beers in the slots in my messenger bag, one in my hand, and get the day started ... just like last year.
• I will hopefully meet a few of my new lockpicking friends in the village IRL
• I will try and go to one event, maybe the BBQ since I am a decent cook and would like to participate one year
• I will gamble a SHITLOAD less
• I won't stay in the Riv this year.
• I expect trouble trying to being my picks in, and might ship them
• I will bring a laptop this year, and just do my damndest to keep it from getting hacked.
