Well, this is the first year for this event. So this thread didn't exist last year... Logic.

If you'd like to throw your name in the hat to be a Monkey Butler for this year, then you're more than welcome to do so. However, if you're just griping about people not letting you help them out last year then do it somewhere else.

If the little brother comes with H3 and I this year, I'll throw him in to be a monkey butler.

Some of you may remember him from DC15 following me around wearing a pirate hat and a badge saying he was own3d by me .

Huh. Requirements are published. Like a job, people can apply for it. When they apply, the submit a resume in their post.

How many people have been disqualified for not meeting the published requirements?

Will you make an announcement when you have a full barrel of ... ?

We are still accepting applications and will be for quite a while. We are also in the process of vetting those that have already applied.

We will make an announcement when we are no-longer accepting monkey butler applications and when we have an official Monkey Butler contingent.

                    Re: Call for Monkey Butlers

I would like to apply for the most coveted and honored position of Monkey Butler.

Monkey Butlers will be needed for a period of three to four hours on Thursday, the day before DefCon officially convenes. 11:30AM to about 3:30 or 4:00PM. Monkey Butlers who can commit more time pre- and post-talk will be welcomed.
Although I am presently waiting for confirmation concerning my time-commitment obligations for EFF's theSummit party that evening, I believe that the current scheduled time-frame will be copacetic. However, if for any reason I should find that there is a conflict, I will immediately withdraw my MB application, with ample time for you to find another, (albeit less competent) MB to fill my vacancy. I will definitely be available pre-talk, however, any post-talk hours would most likely fall into prime-time set-up for theSummit party.

                    Requirements to Participate:

*Must have attended at least One (1) DefCon
I've been attending since DCIV, with the exception of V and VI. (Damn weekend jobs. NEVER again will work interfere with Con NEVER! I say!)

*Must not have been thrown out of any DefCons attended
                    Nope, hasn't happened - yet. I'm a good monkey. I don't fling poo (or RedBull Cans ;-)

*Must pass HighWiz's sniff test (that means take a shower, yo?)
                    Bring it ON, HW!! (does pit-sniffing = /= packet-sniffing ?)

                    *A sense of humor
I laugh at myself ALL the time (and so do a LOT of other folks at DC)

*Able to take direction and follow through on said directions
You want me to put that WHERE?!?! For HOW many bananas?? DONE!

Anything else you need/want to know? Please direct all questions, comments, concerns, complaints to my agent/manager Siviak (Heheheh... Boy, will THAT be a surprise for him!)

                      Addendum, (w/tangent):

If the Monkey Butler call-sheet is full-up for the DC101 talk on Thursday, I'm down for whatever MB reassignment to other contests/events/talks/etc I may be of assistance for.

(My DC schedule is currently pretty open. I have no solid agenda this year, except help HaJ/Vegas 2.0 with theSummit, be in attendance, drink, reconnect, attend various parties and perhaps get a team together for Hacker Jeopardy [Is it even happening this year? Haven't seen a thread started, but it's still early...] I promised Winn when I stepped-down as Vanna last year, that I would make it back in some capacity this year.)

That is all. Thanks for playing, please drive-thru.

Re: Newbie Track: surviving defcon and other related items

lemme know if you need any help with set up, break down, or drunken shennanigans. I would love to help some noobs have a good time with the rest of us that have found defcon to be something truly awesome and aspiring. My first was defcon 7, and I saw shirts and they were clever, and I thought "wow these are neat" and the very next year (informally) ghettogeeks was born, and by jove changed my life for the best. I want to give back to those who have helped me get tothe point I am. So firstly to all who have been involved (whether it be defcon or any con that I am currently affiliated with) THANK YOU!!! couldn't have gotten here without you. To the noobs: we were all there at one time, and even now will ask a friend if Im doing soemthing right (none of us are perfect despite what some people say) so I welcome you brand noobs, and newer school to what many of us find to be mecca.

to the noob area organizers, again just drop me a line and let me know how I can be of assistance.

                            -OD

Just FYI: We're still "accepting" Monkey Butler applicants (till June 1st), but we have the majority of slots filled or tentatively filled (contingent on vetting).
