Why don't you just download Richard Nixon's credit card number like everyone else?

    Wanna email it to me?!
    :p

Great, looks like as soon as I order my pigtail and omni, my kit will be complete! So you might want to update my info in the "Collaborated Wardrive" effort as I stated earlier all I really had was a car. Now I've got a whole kit and psyched to start going!

I'll skip on hydration packs as I always keep bottled water in my bag and I hate cleaning out those reusable paks.

    Question:

Are there splitters available so multiple people can use an antenna at the same time? Just wondering if I'm going to be driving down the strip with multiple antennas and makeshift pipes hangin out of my car?!

    :D

As far as the contest goes, each team will be responsible for their own equipment. DefCon won't be providing anything to the teams.

Remember the more you cut up the line to the antenna from the card the more you lose gain. It would be better for everyone to use their antennas, if they are directional just point them opposite of your team member to get collectively more area coverage. There are plenty of plans available on the net to make any type of antenna :)

Are there any actual formed teams yet? BW, how are the emails coming in? ...as kai, I'm willing to up my setup for the team, per suggestion (with a price cap, of course)

We have received several emails. We haven't started setting the teams up yet, and unless there are full teams that get to us, chances are we won't set them up until the Friday morning of DefCon. Most people will sign up for the contest on the spot, and I think it is better to wait and match the teams up once we have most, if not all the entrants in place. It also gives people the chance at the Con to put their own teams together. Kinda like when you got to choose your own seat as opposed to the teacher assigning them in school.

what's the difference between models of the 1150 that Dell is selling? One is $69, the other $129.... I was going to call redburnz on the $59 shipped deal, but I noticed the less expensive item a little ways down... what gives?

                I don't know, but...

I saw on another board stating that the "slim" antenna one is actually a repackaged Cisco and that the "chunky" (more expensive) one was an Orinoco. I'd recommend calling Dell and asking as this seems to be a pretty popular question right now, especially with the overstock.com sale earlier.

Yeah this was a big issue on another board, we couldn't tell from the pictures what dell or the the people that were selling the refurrbed 1150's were actually selling, 1100's 1150s'.. ? The larger one is identical to the ORiNOCO Gold (with the square antenna module)..
Here is the side by side comparision between the 1150 and the ORiNOCO GOLD:

That really depends on what you want to do. You could have a really strong directional, a nice omnidirectional... Some of the best antennas can also be homebrew antennas... you could even get amplifiers, pre-amplifiers to compensate for antennas... I always try to consider quality first, money second, and plenty of research before using that money on said quality :)

I have a Cisco 340 WAP and card, it was $1000, the hardware security (as opposed to software) allows faster data trasfer, but hey it's 2 years old, time to toss it on Ebay.

I had planned to buy a cisco card 340/350 but have found less expensive cards that also use the prism chipset... though it would be nice to have a higher power level as well as a built in external jack, so far all of the alternative cards don't come with external jacks... though with Cisco you have to choose exclusively whether you want a card with a jack and no internal, or vice-versa. I like the ORiNOCO set up with both options on board. :)

Well, there are several places online that you can look. And again, it depends on what type of antenna you're looking for. You can get a directional YAGI (got mine at hyperlink.com) that gives you 30 degrees of signal collection/transmission but goes great distances. Or you can get a nice OMNI (got my 8dbi at ecommwireless.com) that gives you 360 degrees of signal collection/transmission but doesnt have as good a distance.

Or heck, just build your own. There are tons of directions on building the directional YAGIs out of pringles cans, coffeee cans, etc. Still looking for a good write up on building a nice high gain OMNI.

Well, Sniffer Basic seems to be around 3k if you want to buy it. I used SnifferPro 2.5 a few years ago, and I have to say, wonderful. That and ettercap is all you need for all your analysis and MitM needs.

I'm gonna have to look around for an evaluation copy of NAI SP4.7. Maybe they have a nice "poor people" discount.
