  • defcon shoot shirt design ideas

I'd like to officially solicit design ideas/artwork for the dc shoot t-shirt. To make certain that shirts are delivered on time I will need to submit the order at least two weeks prior to the shoot. I'd like to give people as much time as possible to decide if they want a shirt, so I would really like to have a final decision on the design by say July 8th. That leaves us about 12 days before I would have to have the order placed to ensure on-time delivery.

We have the option to do color graphics on the shirts. I did some fiddling and it looks like using a 5 color design adds anywhere from $3-5 to EACH shirt over a single color design. The size of the artwork doesn't seem to make too much difference in the price.

If you would like to submit a design, please do so in this thread. If you would rather your design wasn't publicly attributable to you, feel free to PM me with it and I will post it for you (semi) anonymously.

I think the only suggestion so far came from deviant who said: "someone could photoshop something ceezy-funny... like one side of the shirt from a screencap from the Matrix of Neo firing dual-handed, with the other side of the shirt being ZeroCool or someone else from hackers (like that annoying kid Joey) in his sights."

If anybody has any questions, let me know.

Even though this is blatantly stealing someone else's idea, I like the look of xrayguns

Anyone have access to a millimeter wave scanner with someone holding guns? (Or the skills to photoshop?)

Actually, that's not a bad idea. How about a TSA style backscatter-esque image of someone armed to the teeth. Related to [semi] current events and firearms, and could likely be done with a single color. My shoop-fu is pretty craptastic, but I'll see if i can whip up at least a rough in the next couple days

sintax_error for the fucking win. you can collect your One Free Internets coupon at the nearest white-boxed courtesy telephone.

i'd love to see this, for sure.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

this year's tagline could be "no liquids, gels, or aerosols"

I really like the X-Ray idea. Here is a test. I'd imagine this would be closer to a true backscatter image as your not really penetrating through the intended image.

If this looks good...might be able to do more with it. We would be looking at two colors, and possibly just one if we can get the blue just right.
*Note* The first image does not belong to me. The Xray does.

Re: defcon shoot shirt design ideas

That looks pretty good (better than anything I could do). But if you'd like some constructive criticism...

The non metal parts (stock, grip, sling), should probably be a little more transparent. (depending on if we're talking millimeter wave, backscatter, or xray)

The components in the gun could show up (especially the rounds in the mag, baffles in the suppressor). This might complicate the image too much (if you start including springs, gas tube, bolt, buffer, etc) and make it too hard to make out, especially for others to quickly pick out what your shirt is depicting.

And while I'm being picky, the mag/round/flash hider in the bottom right disappeared heh, but still nice work.

For the stock image I haven't found something hi-res enough, but i think something close to this pose is the most recognizable and most associated with the TSA scanners

^^ Agreed. This was a quick run. I had an old idea of an MP5K A4 in a brief case with a laptop.

So far, I like the idea of a full size image but it may take a lot of stock images. Going to brainstorm a bit.

Re: defcon shoot shirt design ideas

Rounds in the mag, suppressor baffles and gas tube components would be fairly easy. The composite parts are way to opaque.

Haven't found a good image for rounds in the mag...but here is a copy of further revisions to the AR

Still hammering out the rough (working like a dog) so far it's a full body of a man in backscatter, adding weaponry to him. Anyone with decent photoshop skills that wants to clean it up, DM me an email address and I'll shoot it to you as soon as i have it.

Re: defcon shoot shirt design ideas

I was thinking of doing the TSA scanner body + firearms graphic on the front, and doing the back in a ANSI art layout like an old BBS banner / .nfo style layout with the RSO + Security staff listed in the "Members and Couriers" and "Deviant" as a "SysOP"

                          thoughts?

hmm... my initial notion (aside from my being less than comfortable with being so prominent on the shirt) is that it sounds a little too "busy"

i've never been a fan of large graphics on the fronts of shirts. slogans, etc... that's what the front of a shirt is for.

i'll again suggest "no gels, liquids, or aerosols" as this year's tagline... feel free to put that on the front in an appropriate font and i'd love the design, with the TSA scanner body/firearms backscatter image on the back, along with DEFCON 19 Shoot, Las Vegas, NV etc etcaq

I'm with Deviant on this one. I'd prefer a small slogan or something on the front and graphics on the back.
