  • So, who is bringing what?

Now the DEFCON hotel bookings are live, I think its about time to get things started in here. Its only 159 days away :)

One of the lasting images from last year was just as we were leaving to go back to the Rio. Deviant was lying down on a mat, with some kind of massive sniper rifle (sorry, being from an "unfree" country with regards to firearms, most guns are best described in generic terms to me!). Not wanting to miss this, I stopped the car and watched... and a few second later, BOOOM... and the huge pressure wave raised the dirt around Deviant so far that he just disappeared into a dust storm. A truly grinworthy moment! What was that rifle, and who do I have to bribe to get to shoot that muther? :)

Oh, and the other memory thats worth mentioning was that cannon! Thats was a load of fun :)

This year, i`d like to get a chance to handle some other weapons than the handguns I was lucky enough to fire last year. I`d also like to get some images and videos of people and gear, unlike last year where I was grinning too hard to remember to take the camera out (doh!).

    Good thread idea.

As of now I'm thinking my Glock 27 (Subcompact .40SW) and an AR-15 since it can easily be broken down to fit into luggage for the plane. Haven't decided if my group is flying as usual or driving this year, but if we drive that gives me FAR more options

If I had any guns, I might bring them. Me and ShortGrrl are planning on overlanding, so who knows what might come along? Maybe I'll get a gun before then.

wrøng, give me a pm if you guys drive. We're coming from central Arkansas; we could meet up in Amarillo or something like that. Or just wave if you see us. Range Rover classic, green, with a roof top tent.

Oh, and for those planning: 9mm, 5.56mm, .32 ACP, 7.62mm. Maybe something else. I need a spring for the rear sight on the '03-A3...

edited to add: .380. Grrl will have her baby colt.

Planning on traveling light this year with regards to firearms. However, on the table are .40, .357/.38, .45CL, .45APC, 9mm and .22LR. We'll see as this ting gets closer.

Re: So, who is bringing what?

If the Defcon Shoot is on the first morning of Defcon (Thursday) like last year, I will have to go AGAIN without getting to the shoot. (I'm a goon, and I work morning shift).

What are the possibilities of holding the shoot the DAY BEFORE defcon, like it used to be? Or better still, holding TWO Shoot events?

If there were acommodations for those of us who work the Con, I would bring:
          Browning Lever Action .308 Rifle
          ~1947 Marlin .22 Rifle
          Kimber Stainless TLE II .45acp
          Keltec .32
and if I have it build out by then, a .458 SOCOM GOON-AR.

Re: So, who is bringing what?

If I remember correctly, Deviant was toying with the idea of a Wednesday pre-setup and small shoot session. I am not 100% sure of the details, i`ll have a dig around in the thread from last year. Of course, that was only a thought about what could happen this year, so it may or may not happen that way.

              Ah, here we go:

              https://forum.defcon.org/showthread....l=1#post122952

              2. we pay for a 24 hour rental of the tents and tables, yet use them for only two or three. if we are interested in maximizing our value, i might consider allowing folk to come out on Wednesday afternoon/evening and do some shooting when it's dusky and cool. possible campout/cookout that night, i don't know. this would definitely be on a limted-size basis without walk-in registration, i think.

all just ideas rolling around in my head. i look forward to more discussion here and in new threads soon.

I know Vegas is a desert, but if this carpool from KC pans out I may just have to bring out Mr. Snowman-

I'd like to second the idea of holding the shoot on Wednesday instead of Thursday! (I already plan to arrive on Tuesday.)

It would eliminate the panic of grabbing the defcon registration/badges and then driving out to the shoot on Thursday morning, but for my (already commited) timeline this year, I wont be getting to the Rio until mid-afternoon on Wednesday. If it is Wednesday, could it start later or last longer? (All just thoughts and ideas, as I know nothing has been set in stone just yet)
